I am very experienced in working with adults with childhood trauma, former foster youth, adult adoptees, sexual assault & other trauma survivors.
The past few years have been really tough! Did you feel like you had it all together & then the rug was pulled out from under you? Maybe you experienced trauma when you were younger & thought you had moved past it. Now you feel frustrated, isolated, & alone. Maybe you are feeling triggered by your kids, spouse, partner, parents, or friends. You love them, but the pandemic has caused you to want to take a month-long vacation from them! You have tried dealing with your anxiety, anger, stress, all on your own but you are struggling to stay afloat-yelling at loved ones, working too much.

Have you been in talk therapy and it has NOT worked? Do you want to let go of shame, depression, and guilt? I am looking for people who want to change. The human body is energy. By living life, all kinds of experiences happen. Some of these are negative and traumatic. These occurrences get stuck in your energy field and affect you psychologically. Working with me you will remember memories, and incidents ( you thought you forgot), and together we weave the holes in your energy field and remove the blocks in your energy that are preventing growth and flow.

Whether you are struggling with a loss, working through a life transition, challenged in a relationship, or wanting to change a pattern, it can be useful to have a compassionate, honest therapist helping you navigate. Life can be hard but with the right support, nothing is impossible. At different times in life we all become terrified, triggered, overwhelmed, or just realize things are not working. These times of crisis provide opportunities to look at things differently and make new, more grounded choices. I love this work and am comfortable with anything that might come up.

My goal is to help you see yourself more clearly by helping you quiet the chatter in your mind, slow down and listen to that small voice inside that knows everything you need to know to have the life you want. Using traditional talking therapy, and combinations of meditation, art, writing and role playing, many people are able to carve out that route to the heart of the matter hidden inside. It's a wonderful journey and I'd love to go there with you.

Steps to feeling better includes engaging in a process of self-discovery, learning and growing. Negative patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving are changeable. Some patterns are counter intuitive to living a healthy and happy life. I enjoy guiding clients in their own journey of self-discovery, via identifying barriers and opportunities in reaching personal goals. The therapeutic process is not always a linear path, there are twists and turns. However, there are evidenced-based strategies that can help you. My goal is to present them to you, show you how to use them until one or several provide meaningful results.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
