You’re an over thinker and a deep feeler. You have a habit of putting others first and it's starting to take a toll on your body - Racing thoughts, sleepless nights, dwelling on things from yesterday, that flutter in your belly...You know all the things that should make it better but you feel frozen and unable to take action. Maybe you've tried talk therapy before but you still don’t FEEL different. You’ve been feeling this yuck in your body for a while now and you’re finally ready to do something about it.

Perhaps you are an incredibly caring person who puts other people’s needs first. You enjoy giving your time and energy towards making others feel happy, and perhaps you’ve been playing on the sidelines in your own life. But, you secretly fear you won’t get love or respect back if you did not do so. So perhaps, you keep doing and giving and playing quietly. Truth is, this depletes you and leaves you not living the life you were truly meant to live. As head of household or business, you feel tired, stressed and perhaps not as happy as you’d like to be. And, you’ve neglected your own needs in mind, body and spirit for some time now.

Everyday living is not without stressors. How we react to events or interact in relationships can be a struggle as well as puzzling. Why do we feel the way we do? Why do we continue to make the same mistakes over and over again? How can our perceptions be so different from others? How do early experiences impact our perceptions, feelings, and behaviors? I provide a safe, comforting environment for you to explore and reflect on your past and recent experiences, feelings, and relationships. My approach is to facilitate change based on your expressed needs and goals.

Such approaches include identifying evidence-based coping strategies from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to provide short term relief while we work together to address the etiology of your suffering with use of psychodynamic approaches.
Life can often times make us feel like a crab without a shell, being thrown around by the waves into the rocks of the jetty. For many of us, there was never a "before" period - rather, the struggle has been all one has known. Individuals born into dysfunctional family systems often find that vulnerabilities from childhood not only fail to leave us as we become adults, but often make frequent and unwelcome appearances in the form of insecurity, shame, misplaced guilt and difficulty in relationships, to name a few.

It is my sincere belief that we all can benefit from a safe, non-judgmental space where we can explore the most vulnerable parts of ourselves. We all have a need to be seen and heard. It is my hope to create such an environment with the therapeutic relationship at its core. Utilizing a primarily relational, psychodynamic approach, I work with my clients to create a treatment plan that reflects their needs, goals and values.

I completed a Fellowship at Boston University's Danielsen Institute where I was trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Do you ever wonder about or question your relationship to sex? Is there just never enough sex? Do you struggle with emotional intimacy and connecting with others? Do you notice that you repeatedly lie to others, even those closest to you, about your sexual behaviors? As a trained Certified Sexual Addiction therapist (CSAT) I can help you to be curious about, answer, make sense of, and navigate these and many other complex questions. Through a detailed, comprehensive assessment and evaluation process I can help you determine if you have a Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder that would benefit from specific intervention and treatment.

I draw from a range of theories, including: DBT, psychodynamic, solution focused, and CBT.
I believe that everyone is resilient - and that constantly having to be strong can be exhausting. Through our work together, my goal is to honor that internal strength while also providing space for grieving, healing, and growing. I am passionate about supporting people that have lived through complex trauma and have been navigating their lives in survival mode. I work to help people re-establish a sense of safety within themselves, develop an understanding into how their experiences shaped them, and cultivate meaningful relationships.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
