I spent many years working at college counseling centers, most recently at Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary.
My goal as a psychotherapist is to help you work through difficult experiences, traumas, or symptoms that may be holding you back. I believe that emotional pain can lead to anxiety, shame, and self-doubt. These feelings keep us feeling stuck and inhibit vital parts of ourselves. I strive to help my clients develop more compassion and curiosity toward their experiences so they can learn new ways of coping and achieve greater satisfaction, self-confidence, and authenticity.

“I’m so sad.” “I’m stuck.” “I’m lonely.” “I hate my life.” “I’m nervous about everything.” If these sentiments sound familiar, you have just taken the first step toward change. I have specialized training in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and complex trauma. I have unique experience in treating men and women with relationship issues as well as those contemplating, or in the process of, divorce. I have worked extensively with religiously observant individuals of the Catholic and Jewish faith, negotiating the tension between modern contemporary life and religious practice.

Do you find yourself struggling with sadness or constant worry? Are you having difficulty in your relationships? No matter what you're going through, this will be a safe space for you. I'm here to help. I am a licensed mental health counselor of 4 years and have mostly worked in nonprofit. I believe mental health care should be attainable for all, which is why I accept health insurances and offer reduced rates if needed. Much of my work has been with the Jewish population.

I also work with women who are in the Orthodox Jewish community and seeking relationship or fertility/perinatal support and/or trauma work.
Feelings of hopelessness, shame and inadequacy may be rising up regardless of your daily positive affirmations. When you are feeling stuck, it may be time to try a different approach—targeting your thoughts, body and emotions. Together, you will learn to self-regulate, relieve your symptoms, and increase your confidence and self-worth in order to embody your authentic self. We’ll work together to heal your past so you can ground yourself in the present and reach future goals.

Each person's life story is unique. I hope to help you explore the chapters of your life story that you would like to understand better and improve. These subtle changes can enhance your day to day life today. The first step is recognizing that you want to make changes and then having the courage to do so. I work collaboratively with you or your child to help you explore what can be done to make changes and relieve some of the stressors. As an expert working with the Latinex and the Orthodox Jewish population, I understand the intersection of cultural identity and mental health.

My professional view of counseling is that it is a journey of self exploration by the client, using therapy as a guide to self understanding & self awareness. I, as a marriage and family therapist, use the skills that I have learned and developed throughout my education and clinical experience to facilitate growth in my clients. I am not an expert in any of my clients’ lives, but I strive to learn who they are from them and allow them to make decisions for themselves. I allow the client to guide the session so we can talk about the deep rooted problems when they are ready & tackle the daily struggles that cause anxiety & depression.

It is nearly impossible to see your situation clearly when you’re emotionally struggling. That’s where a therapist can help! I like to compare therapy to untangling a ball of yarn. Together we can find a way to organize your thoughts and figure out how to accomplish your goals. In my therapy sessions, I offer a space to explore your thoughts and the purpose behind your actions.

The stress of trying to manage it all when it feels like you're drowning is exhausting! I specialize in working with women feeling overwhelmed by relationship issues, parenting challenges, a devastating loss, or traumatic event. My clients often struggle with feeling depleted; they're tired, their thoughts keep racing, the anxiety's overwhelming, and they can feel really stuck and alone with their pain. It's a lot! And when life stressors occur it's ok to not feel ok, it's human. Some who are used to doing things on their own may question why healing would be any different and so continue to suffer. You don't need to go it alone.

Here’s what I believe: it can be really scary to get in touch with our emotions and needs, but when we avoid them, it wreaks havoc on our lives. We lash out, people please, numb out, run away, dissociate, or sometimes completely shut down. There comes a point, however, when we decide we want more out of life, and know it's time for change. Perhaps you’re at that point right now. If so, I want to offer you a warm welcome. In our work together, I will honor your resilience, hold your darkness with reverence and celebrate progress and possibility with you. We all need support sometime - we weren't build to do this alone.

I am a clinical psychologist licensed in both NY and NJ and would be grateful to assist you in navigating the obstacles that impede you from achieving your goals. I emphasize warmth, gratitude, and empathy in my practice, and hold space to collaborate, gently challenge one another, and examine relationships (including ours). I work psychodynamically and relationally to understand the root source of your concerns beyond presenting symptoms, and help you develop and enhance adaptive coping skills from there.

Jewish Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same background to be able to work together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of cultural forces, such as discrimination, that may contribute to that client’s concerns. With a professional who has such training, a client should feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues without feeling that they need to self-censor.

How can I recognize an effective Jewish therapist?

As with members of any religious or ethnic group, just because two people happen to be Jewish does not guarantee that they will share the same values, knowledge, or experiences. A Jewish client seeking a therapist who shares their cultural identity, or for whom it’s important that a therapist share their religious beliefs, may want to discuss a professional’s Jewish background with them before beginning therapy. For someone who seeks justification for major life changes in their religious tradition, or in biblical writings, finding a therapist who is comfortable framing guidance in that context may be especially valuable.

Would a Jewish therapist have unique training?

No, but they should have the same training and certification as any other mental health professional, as well as experience with a range of evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or mindfulness-based therapy. A therapist with this type of experience should be able to help any client feel comfortable and safe, which is essential for a therapeutic alliance. Once this is established, a potential client may want to find out more about the therapist’s Jewish background.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with Jewish clients?

A client can directly ask a therapist if they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and if so, whether these individuals sought counseling for faith-related issues or marital or familial issues in which their Jewish background was a factor. A client may also wish to ask a potential therapist whether they incorporate Jewish teachings and values into their own professional work.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Jewish therapists?

The directory of Jewish therapists includes professionals who have opted to share their cultural background on their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their background, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and/or communities.
