While I have experience with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds, I am especially experienced in working with Jewish communities, including with people who practice differently than their families.
People often struggle with negative, self-defeating thoughts - often ones that they know are not completely true, yet nevertheless feel true. Many of my clients come to me because they want to make changes in their life - at work, school, or with family - but they feel trapped because of these negative thoughts. These thoughts can lead to excessive guilt, hopelessness, and indecision. As a therapist trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, I am committed to working together with you in helping you get unstuck.

Each person's life story is unique. I hope to help you explore the chapters of your life story that you would like to understand better and improve. These subtle changes can enhance your day to day life today. The first step is recognizing that you want to make changes and then having the courage to do so. I work collaboratively with you or your child to help you explore what can be done to make changes and relieve some of the stressors. As an expert working with the Latinex and the Orthodox Jewish population, I understand the intersection of cultural identity and mental health.

I work with adolescents and adults from diverse backgrounds, addressing concerns like anxiety, depression, and compulsions. I also help with issues around careers, desire, and creative work. Many experience feelings of shame, guilt, and a lack of direction, which often affect their relationships with others and their work, family, and romantic lives. My sessions involve focused talk. By unpacking personal narratives—including day-to-day feelings—we aim to understand the underlying forces in these stories, some of which may not be immediately apparent. I use a psychoanalytic approach, focusing on how the unconscious shapes behavior.

Sometimes, Life takes us away from ourselves, away from our own wisdom. The chatter of the past, the chaos of the world, the day-to-day obligations, fears/uncertainties—it’s not surprising that we may get lost and miss that which brings us joy and offers us meaning. When the present is painful/uncomfortable, we are even more likely to shy away to block the hurt. This is a reality we all face. As I have learned in my own journey, it is crucial to develop connectedness, balance, curiosity, make sense of life’s difficulties, mourn losses, celebrate joys, get to know the authentic self, and find the courage to live intentionally.

Soul loss is what we go through when our early wounds and traumas restrict our energy and impede our ability to live freely and joyfully. I can help you retrieve your lost energy and rewire old patterns, so you can more fully embody who you were meant to be. Pain is often an invitation to learn more about our feelings so we can evolve and expand. I use a mind-body approach (somatic experiencing/ gestalt) with a relational lens (psychodynamic/ attachment/ Jungian) and energy healing. If you feel stuck after years of talk therapy, I can help. I see children, adolescents, adults, couples & families online only at the moment.

Welcome! I have worked in this field for over 13 years. I work with preteens, adolescents, college students, and adults. My training and clinical specialties include complex trauma, depression, anxiety, and effects of stress on daily functioning at any age. I work with clients who may feel stuck, isolated, and blocked from engaging in life. Throughout life one faces milestones and expectations that may exacerabate past traumas, poor self-image, and ways of coping that feel uncontrollable. In therapy, I believe that even the most intimate aspects of one's life can be safely explored in a collaborative and caring environment.

Hi there, I'm Julie and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I work with kids, teens, and their families who went through a traumatic experience and are struggling with its aftermath. If you've experienced something scary, sad, or stressful, it's normal to have a lot of strong emotions that you may not know how to handle. Anxiety, fear, and anger might make you feel like there's something wrong with you or that you're out of control. If you're a kid or teen who wants help after going through a traumatic event, or if you're a parent seeking support for your child, know that there's hope!

I have over 30 years of experience working with adults, children and families, and an ongoing passion and engagement in the art of psychotherapy. When the fit is right, a good therapeutic relationship can provide a powerful vehicle for healing and transformation. I think for therapy to really gel, you need to feel that your therapist gets you, perhaps in a way few others have. Adults I work with often tell me they have that experience with me, that they feel fully seen and understood. My work with children began in my earliest days as a therapist - and it continues to be a central part of my practice.

I work with young adults and adults experiencing depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, issues related to drugs or alcohol, and those recovering and healing from trauma. I have supported individuals in exploring their gender and sexuality and embrace non-binary, trans, and queer identities. I also specialize in perinatal, postpartum, and parental mental health. Many of my clients are mental health care providers themselves, who need clinical supervision or emotional support. My approach supports exploration of both the roots of emotions, behaviors, and patterns, while also talking about the here and now.

Jewish Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same background to be able to work together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of cultural forces, such as discrimination, that may contribute to that client’s concerns. With a professional who has such training, a client should feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues without feeling that they need to self-censor.

How can I recognize an effective Jewish therapist?

As with members of any religious or ethnic group, just because two people happen to be Jewish does not guarantee that they will share the same values, knowledge, or experiences. A Jewish client seeking a therapist who shares their cultural identity, or for whom it’s important that a therapist share their religious beliefs, may want to discuss a professional’s Jewish background with them before beginning therapy. For someone who seeks justification for major life changes in their religious tradition, or in biblical writings, finding a therapist who is comfortable framing guidance in that context may be especially valuable.

Would a Jewish therapist have unique training?

No, but they should have the same training and certification as any other mental health professional, as well as experience with a range of evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or mindfulness-based therapy. A therapist with this type of experience should be able to help any client feel comfortable and safe, which is essential for a therapeutic alliance. Once this is established, a potential client may want to find out more about the therapist’s Jewish background.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with Jewish clients?

A client can directly ask a therapist if they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and if so, whether these individuals sought counseling for faith-related issues or marital or familial issues in which their Jewish background was a factor. A client may also wish to ask a potential therapist whether they incorporate Jewish teachings and values into their own professional work.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Jewish therapists?

The directory of Jewish therapists includes professionals who have opted to share their cultural background on their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their background, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and/or communities.
