Aloha, I value the diversity of healthy relationships and recognize their importance in both individual and family life cycle development. I also understand how painful conflicted relationships in the here and now or from the past can be. I integrate traditional and contemporary psychotherapy to assist adults, children, couples and families in addressing the challenges they face. Using a strength-based framework, I work compassionately with clients to find individualized solutions to life's most personal and difficult problems.

Aloha! Sometimes life can be overwhelming; therapy can provide a shelter from the storm! I have worked in Mental Health settings for 40 years. This experience has allowed me to ground my work in compassion and caring as well as providing fierce accountability as appropriate. Over the past 12 years I have worked in private practice focusing on trauma resolution and adding expertise in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprogramming (EMDR) and my favorite modality which is called Internal Family Systems work (IFS). Therapy, from an Integral perspective, has many levels to it: physical, emotional, mental and ultimately spiritual as well.

It is an honor to support humans on their journey to wellness. As a psycho-spiritual therapist, I weave in elements of the greater mystery we're all part of, bringing the macro-cosm into our personal experience. My work with clients is deep soul work, aligning them with the right resources, at the right time, for what is ready to heal now. I help clients identify patterns that keep them stuck and blocked from living the life they desire. Using energy psychology techniques like Emotional Freedom Techniques (tapping), I guide the release of stagnant energy that no longer serves them. All the while the client's soul leads the healing.

Aloha, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been practicing for over 18 years. My approach to therapy is to build trusting relationships that allow for honesty and authenticity. I assist those I work with to recognize their natural potential, and innate gifts to move past unhealthy patterns and heal old wounds. In the work, we focus on acquiring tools to live in our ever changing world, developing new narratives and cultivating increased awareness. I specialize in trauma related conditions both current and in childhood, as well as depression, anxiety, self-harm, parenting, couples and family conflict.

Imagine facing the world with a sense of confidence and peace instead of fear or shame. Imagine looking at your partner and being filled with feelings of love, gratitude, and excitement. Imagine waking up to feel freed from your past and free to live your future! During periods of struggle, we can feel isolated and directionless in our experience and not where to turn or what to do. As a human, I understand suffering. As a therapist, my intention is to honor every part of your humanness and walk alongside you on the path towards wellness.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
