I provide individual and family therapy and use a variety of treatment methods, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, and Ego State and other dynamic approaches.
I enjoy working with someone who has struggled in relationships or with reaching educational or career goals and has been feeling saddened or frustrated with their limited success. While forming a working relationship, I focus on helping the person to develop realistic goals. I balance my work between teaching new coping skills and helping the person address and resolve conflicts with others as well as within his or her self that have interfered in the past. Then, we focus on gaining motivation toward using the newly learned skills and making significant changes in his or her life.

I can help you gain insight into your behavior and identify your strengths and values to better guide you through the next steps in life. Together, we can figure out how your past and current experiences are influencing your current behavior and what's keeping you stuck. Let me join you on your journey to mental and emotional wellness. We often struggle to cope with life’s stressors and feel as if we have little control over our mental health issues. This can lead to feeling detached and disconnected in many ways. You may seek to learn ways to improve your sense of self and relationships, as well as bring you closer to what gives you meaning and purpose. This can include enhancing self-awareness, processing difficult experiences and emotions, and/or developing secure connections with others. In doing so, you can feel stronger and safer, and experience more fully what you value in your life.

Accepting new clients, telehealth only until Oct. I guide clients to gain insight, clarity and practical solutions to better navigate life. Together, we will explore finding a balance between feeling peaceful, living passionately, and having a sense of purpose. My approach is based on the belief that the quality of your life can be improved by focusing not only on your mind, but your body and soul as well. Struggling with uncomfortable feelings that seem unmanageable is common when dealing with stress. Self-esteem, self-worth, and well-being are often compromised by everyday experiences and relationships. Change is possible.

I am a licensed mental health counselor with over 30 years of experience. My passion in counseling is helping individuals reconnect with their authentic selves and with others. While I have specific skills, knowledge and training, my clients are the "experts" of their own lives. In counseling we work together to help the person find his/her own answers. I believe each of us has our own inner wisdom and my role as a psychotherapist is to help the client access that wisdom.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
