Welcome! I believe that one of the essential ingredients of change and transformative psychotherapy is the relationship between the individual and the therapist. Feeling understood and comfortable not only helps reduce one's symptoms, encouraging self-acceptance, but also leads toward deeper work which promotes lasting change and a deeper experience of one's unique self.

I specialize in trauma, suicide and grief and I approach these issues collaboratively with you to find the best way forward.
Whether its the pain of trauma or the onset of a new, overwhelming change in your life, it can become harder and harder for you to be at peace and feel empowered. You may know deep down that something feels wrong, but also feel lost when it comes to addressing these difficulties. Furthermore, these challenges can make you feel isolated from the very relationships you'd hope would sustain you through these difficult times.

I work with adults across the lifespan who struggle with a variety of challenges, including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, loss, and substance use.
Are you feeling trapped or overwhelmed by life's challenges? Does something feel "off," but you don't yet have words for it? A strong therapeutic relationship can empower us to live the lives we want by challenging the stories we tell about ourselves and the world. Asking for help can be daunting, so I work to create a safe environment that supports my clients in being fully themselves. Since each person comes to my practice with their own vision of what a fulfilling life looks like, I use a collaborative approach to meet each person's unique needs.

People struggling with depression/anxiety, grief, relational issues, anger, questions of meaning, identity, and trauma, are all welcome to contact me.
I believe in the innate dignity of all people, and the work I do as a counselor is to encourage and empower people to live up to their personal values and embrace a more abundant life. When I work with a client I meet them where they are, without judgment, and enter into a working relationship built on trust, empathy, vulnerability, and communication. I have a person-centered approach to therapy, meaning that I respect the people who walk into my office enough to trust them to make decisions for themselves. I believe change is inevitable, but also, often painful, but that doesn't mean we can't work to find hope and grace.

My experiences working with LGBTQ+ social service agencies, as a hospice bereavement counselor and as a hospital chaplain have made me particularly interested in exploring the effects religious trauma (an issue especially prevalent amongst the LGBTQ+ community) as well as helping clients who are reconciling issues of faith and sexuality.
I work with individuals and couples (straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans) who are dealing with a range of issues in their lives. A meaningful, authentic client-therapist relationship is of utmost importance to me, and I strive to create safe and welcoming spaces for all by fostering an environment of empathy, openness and honesty. Clients who see me receive compassionate care without negative judgment, creating opportunities to make meaning of the events of their lives.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
