I work with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, perinatal mood/anxiety issues, parent/child attachment issues, substance abuse, adolescent and midlife transitions, I provide a safe space to do the work together.
Most often the goal coming into therapy is to find relief and decrease symptoms. Some may come to gain skills to get through challenging life situations and transitions. The skills learned in therapy can be applied for you to use throughout your life and will support long term positive change. The change occurs as we become aware of our life story and the patterns that unfold. In this process we gain more awareness and understanding of the self in relation to others. It is my passion to walk alongside you on the path of self-discovery as your story unfolds and you gain personal meaning.

Are you and your child going through really difficult circumstances? Are you feeling lost about how to help? I have worked with children from birth to 18 in hospital, school, foster care, and community settings. I specialize in supporting families through school issues, grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, as well as through medical experiences/chronic illness. My therapeutic approach prioritizes safety in relationships, understanding the ‘why’ of a child’s behavior, and helping children and caregivers develop new ways to cope and find joy together. I use play, sand tray, movement and expressive arts to meet children where they are!

I have over 12 years of experience working with a range of issues, including grief, loss, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and anxiety.
It takes real courage for you to be here. Perhaps, you feel like you're stuck and you don't know what else to do. You keep trying to fix things on your own, but they aren't getting any better. Experiencing personal struggles, relationship difficulties, life changes, or significant trauma can change who we are and how we see the world. We later feel anxiety, pain, sorrow, fear, self-doubt, guilt, or shame.

I have specialized training in play therapy, trauma interventions, bereavement, and perinatal mood disorders.
Life can be messy, it can catch us off guard. We can find ourselves treading water and the things that used to keep us afloat aren’t working quite so well. Old wounds can dull our spark. If we’re human, we’ve all been there. I work with children, teens, and adults who are experiencing anxiety and depression, grief due to a death or those anticipating a loss, a life threatening medical diagnosis, anaphylactic food allergies and accompanying stressors, trauma, and parents with perinatal mood disorders.

I am most passionate about walking with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, identity, self-esteem, body image, relationship challenges, and adjustment (into college or into young adult life), but find purpose in all my counseling relationships. In those relationships, I find it equally important to grieve and sit in brokenness and pain with clients as it is to celebrate growth, healing, and health.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
