Supervision offered for intern counselors. I provide both English and Spanish counseling services. My hope is to create a safe space where clients can explore distressing issues, begin the healing process, and create a sense of self-empowerment as they enter on a voyage towards self-discovery and living a more fulfilling life. From the moment individuals enter my office, I encourage them to "trust the process" as they embark upon their therapeutic journey of healing and self-discovery. I challenge my clients to view this journey with excitement and remind them through every step that there is still hope! Si todavia hay esperanza!

Hi, my name is Alecia, I am Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have lived in Lee County for over 30 years. I work with individuals, couples and families. Life can be a lonely place when you no longer feel yourself or are feeling overwhelmed. Anxiety, depression and traumas can feel like a cinder block on our shoulders. You may wonder how things will change? Change begins with vulnerability. To be vulnerable is to let go of the notion you have to struggle alone.

I have always wanted to help people. I’ve been able to do that in a variety of ways over the years. Working in domestic violence shelters, agencies that assist child sexual abuse survivors, in-home intensive substance abuse counseling...I’m privileged to have been able to help so many. It truly makes me happy. Now, I have my own practice after all of these years and I couldn’t be more excited to continue helping people; just in a much more enjoyable and comfortable setting. The therapists that work at Mandala are personally hired by me, and they are all wonderful and caring! You’re in great hands!

Counseling can help you find new ways to cope with stress, better manage anger, depression, and other emotional pressures. Get "unstuck" from past relationships and family issues--break old patterns and develop new ways of dealing with old issues. Heal old psychological wounds---repair damage from the past. Discover creative ways to problem-solve. Improve your self esteem and boost your self confidence. The overall result can be improved health and well being.

Are you emotionally drained or struggling to keep going? Do you have worrying or negative thoughts? Does the past haunt you? Maybe it stems from an unhealthy relationship or past trauma. Maybe your emotions feel too intense to manage. Or maybe you're experiencing a recent loss/change in life. You might even be consumed by a fast-paced lifestyle. What if I told you now was the perfect time to take a step back and focus on YOU?

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and trained to provide counseling and psychotherapy. What is the difference? Counseling is usually for more solution focused needs and can be short term. Psychotherapy is not advise. We explore deeper emotional issues, identify the causes and work toward a better understanding of yourself so that you can move on and develop healthier ways of coping with life and people. I practice CBT/CPT: Cognitive behavioral/processing therapy which explores how your thought patterns can affect your feelings and behaviors. I find this most useful as it helps people learn to help themselves.

Why do we or our loved ones continue in cycles that harm? This question often echoes in the minds of family members or those battling addiction. The sleepless nights and torment are harrowing. Yet, there is hope and help. Having experienced alcoholism firsthand as a daughter, sister, and individual, I understand the journey intimately. I’ve transcended maladaptive coping mechanisms and made it my life’s mission to aid others in their struggle against this illness. Whether you’re a family member or directly grappling with addiction, I am here to support you.

Codependency Therapists

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
