My practice is focused on helping people have healthier, more productive relationships, whether with a significant other/spouse, friend, family member or co-worker. I believe that relationships form the foundation of our lives, and when those relationships feel threatened, nothing else seems to matter. I work with both individuals as well as couples, providing a safe, relaxed environment, where clients are free to express themselves and try out new ideas without judgment.

We all struggle at times, but shouldn’t have to deal with life’s challenges alone. That’s what counseling is for. I believe in your capacity to embrace your authentic self, heal from painful experiences, and feel better. The people I work with often struggle with self-esteem, relationships, sexuality, gender identity, communication, career, depression, anxiety, grief. Helping you feel better and understand the root of your suffering is what I am here for. I believe that understanding yourself and healing go hand-in-hand.

Sometimes, as humans, we get wounded in ways that are so deep, they are difficult to name. Perhaps you have lost loved ones along the way, or can't find meaning in your story. Have you ever inventoried your life to discover that it is not what you want it to be? Do you feel haunted by memories? Maybe you engage in self-destructive or numbing behaviors that you wish you could change, but find that making those changes is easier said than done. My goal is to create a trustworthy space where we can work through whatever it is you bring in, on your search for healing, fulfillment, and wholeness.

You have lost faith in your ability to make decisions, fearing a repeat of past mistakes. 'Was that too much?' 'What does that mean?' You're re-reading text threads. You prioritize the needs of others over your own, losing yourself in the process. Asking yourself: "Are these even my choices? What am I protecting? Who am I trying to be in relationships? What do I want?" Relationships (breakups, separation, dating, divorce) bring up anxiety, depression and self-judgment - affecting the relationship we have with ourselves. -> And this is your opportunity to define what’s missing, unpack who you are, and strengthen your foundation.

I work with families and couples around relationship concerns and family planning and provide coaching for eating disorder support.
From the very beginning, I work to build trust and a foundation for my clients that allows them to feel safe to share and explore their personal narrative. I empower individuals to recognize that they have the ability to change negative ways of thinking, create new patterns of relationships with themselves and others, and set boundaries that allow them to move through the world feeling supported. My main focus is treating eating disorders using the HAES foundation. I am a certified clinical trauma professional currently working on my EMDR certification. Other modalities I utilize are CBT, DBT, IFS, Solution Focused, MI, and more.

No matter how much we try to be happy, sometimes life hits us with curveballs and we get knocked down. While it's a natural reaction to want to distract ourselves from this pain, often that only makes it worse. I'm here to offer a different path. Together we can process difficult emotions, befriend uncertainty, and find meaning amid life's greatest challenges. My approach is eclectic with an emphasis on Internal Family Systems and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I've also been a Buddhist practitioner for nearly a decade, and like to integrate meditation and Eastern philosophy into my work as appropriate.

Whether you are engaging in individual, family, relationship, or group therapy, Dr.
Psychotherapy is often described as ‘the treatment of mental disorders,’ but that is only one of many reasons a person may seek services. Psychologists have the unique knowledge & expertise to draw connections between past relational patterns, individual brain chemistry, heritability of symptoms, emotional awareness, & thought processes/behaviors that perpetuate impairments in functioning. Psychotherapy isn’t a matter of asking a question & receiving advice - but rather learning the skills to make sense of life & building the confidence to take control of it.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
