I have experience working with veterans and their families, and I'm from a law enforcement family.
As a society, it feels like we're wired to always be on the run and "multi-tasking." It's overwhelming and drives constant anxiety. Add on top of that we're stuck in the same election of 4 years ago and the reminders of that chaos. Eventually our bodies say ENOUGH! and shut down to a depressive state to conserve energy. Then introduce something we find to make us feel better, and our tendency to overuse and abuse. I'm the rare mental health professional who is a licensed substance abuse counselor, MFT, and 14 years into my own recovery. I understand all too well the drive to just escape and to somehow, someway try and feel better.

Hi and welcome. I'm a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist based in California. I have been practicing for 10 years in various settings. I work with children and adults who may be struggling with depression, trauma, or life transitions that are affecting their relationships or family. My clinical interests include working with single-parent families, African-American women, multiracial individuals and families, couples, and exploring the effects of family patterns on individuals and their lives.
I provide psychotherapy services to clients to help them explore their lives and find meaning in their relationships. I work to empower and encourage clients to be more self-aware, explore their feelings, and improve their ability to navigate their experiences. I like to explore a variety of therapeutic modalities to find what best suits each client as every client is different and one size does not fit all when it comes to treatment. I like to listen to my clients and ensure that what I'm hearing is what they are saying. I also like to let them know they have choices, especially since it's their well-being that we are discussing.

Further, I have advanced training in three evidence-based models of psychotherapy ( emotionally focused therapy, internal family systems, and EMDR).
Acute and long-standing stress can trigger emotions, thoughts, and reactions that shape our sense of self and our relationships. If you find it increasingly difficult to cope with stressors, stay emotionally regulated, and connect to others, I can help. My approach to therapy is compassionate, culturally responsive, collaborative, and non-pathologizing. Further, I am informed by multiple evidence-based perspectives and believe that societal influences significantly contribute to the way people receive, process, and respond to stress, problems, trauma, and relationships.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
