After Assessment, I will explain the root of your child's suffering, & I will suggest unique strategies for you and your family that will relieve the pain and set all of you on a path of healing, harmony & growth.
Worried moms & frazzled dads, look no further! Maybe your child is anxious, sad, angry, or acting out. You've tried empathy, rewards, punishments, extra attention, special privileges. You've read books, consulted parenting blogs, & asked other parents for advice. Whatever you try, it may even work for a few days but then all the old problems come right back. Maybe your boy wants to dress like a girl and it's freaking you out. Maybe your teen declares "I'm queer"--what does that even mean? Let's add the stress of the pandemic and you're exhausted, frustrated, and worried about your child's future.

As a family therapist, I am honored to be invited into my clients' personal story.
Feeling sad, overwhelmed and anxious? Stressed in your relationships? Struggling with children or adolescents, perhaps taking care of elder adults or someone with special needs? Life can be challenging. There may be days when you're able to solve one problem only to have three more appear. Families are constantly shifting with the culture. Although change can be a good thing, it may feel too fast, creating fear and anxiety. When life becomes too difficult to manage and when there are regular and unresolved conflicts among family members it may be time to seek help and gain perspective.

I am here to help you bear the weight of trauma, relationship issues, marital and family conflict, and any other difficult experience life throws your way.
You have had days that make you feel like switching off the sun, crawling underneath your skin, and checking out from this catastrophic cantankerous world. You have been emotionally shipwrecked by life, fragmented by negative experiences, and you feel broken beyond repair. Yesterday was too much, today you're drowning in the sea of despair; and, tomorrow should not see the light of day. Existing feels like too much to ask, survival seems impossible, and you're thinking, "I can't do this..." Maybe you can't, but we can, and we will. You may feel alone, but you are not alone. You may sway and bend, but you will never break.

Intergenerational family dysfunction is not inevitable. I work with adults and children to untangle relational and behavioral patterns that are often foundational to the presenting problem. I take an integrative, strength-based approach and help the client identify perceptions and attributions that may be interfering with optimal self development and fulfilling relationships. This therapeutic approach is helpful in changing dysfunctional relational dynamics to those that promote growth and well-being.

My therapy modalities include cognitive behavior therapy, multicultural family therapy, narrative therapy, Trauma-focused CBT, play therapy and feminist therapy.
I believe in meeting clients where they are at! Every person is resilient. I intend our collaboration to remind you of your strengths, provide you tools to weather the storms of life, and a safe space to gain insight into your truest self. I come to social work from a social justice background and recognize that trauma and oppression are often intertwined. Acknowledging systemic issues is a vital part of my practice, particularly for youth and families directly impacted by it. Teaching you to advocate successfully on your own behalf, whether it be in your relationships or larger systems, is also essential.

My ideal client is an individual who presents with depressive and anxiety symptoms. They reported issues at work and experiencing insomnia, irritability, and sadness. The client is open to coping, assertiveness, and anger management skills. They also verbalized an interest in involving family members in the recovery process. I would integrate therapeutic interventions tailored to the individual and collaborate with other providers.

My ideal client would be a middle-aged woman struggling with depression and anxiety and grieving the loss of a child, husband, or a close family member. I would start by assessing her needs and using the Beck depression inventory scale and the Beck depression anxiety inventory scale. I would use grounding techniques and CBT, such as scheduling activities, positive affirmations, and psycho-education on depression and anxiety. I would also encourage journaling, writing five things for which they are thankful daily, and writing letters to the deceased person.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
