I received my clinical training in an adult and adolescent partial hospitalization program, where I provided individual, group, and family therapy to those suffering from depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and self-injurious behaviors.
I specialize in working with children, adolescents, adults, and families impacted by anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, grief/loss, family conflict and behavioral concerns. I recognize the unique pressures of parenting today and have a passion for providing parent education and family support. I believe that through building self-compassion and by strengthening connections, families can heal and thrive.

Eileen's passion lies in supporting new mothers and parents, recognizing the profound impact it can have on their mental and emotional well-being. Drawing from her own experience as a mother of three as well as her perinatal mental health certification, she enjoys working with all parents (new and seasoned!) to help them address unhealthy patterns they may have brought with them from their own childhoods. She finds it very important to explore our past experiences and relationships in order to discover underlying beliefs that might be in the way of raising healthy, happy children and to find ways to actually enjoy parenthood.

We find ourselves hurting. Life becomes hard. We pick up scars from past hardships as well as new wounds from our current trials. These scars and wounds hurt. Our hurt may be coming from thoughts we have a difficult time managing, from the tensions we live with, or from our patterns of self defeating behaviors. We desire to be free from our worries, our anxieties, and our struggle to accept ourselves. We want fulfillment for our longing to engage in real relationships with the people we love. We all want to feel loved, to feel at peace, and to see our hope realized.

I have specialized in comprehensive family change work, meaning treating all the issues families and couples address.
I believe in empowering people to reach their full potential by providing services that are strengths-based, practical, holistic, and focused on promoting long lasting change. I work using a style of fostering trust and authenticity, starting where people want and ending when people feel their life and issues have changed and their happiness enhanced. I believe the relationship in counseling is the core issue in treatment. This is particularly important in working with children and adolescents where no work could be done without building a warm, honest, and caring connection. I believe healing comes through the mind, body, spirit connection.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
