As a PhD, Licensed Professional Counselor, CSAT and Co-Owner/Executive Director of The Timothy Center, my daily focus is on helping others find God's solutions to life challenges. In the many years of counseling couples, individuals, teens and their families, my experience has shown me that it is never too late to turn your life or the life of your family around. With extensive training, the right assessment tools, and your commitment to hard work, together we can work on reshaping how we think, remember, and behave.

Telehealth Only! I have one rule in session: We have to laugh at least once. Life is hard, work can be stressful, parenting can be chaotic, relationships can be confusing, and sometimes we are just not okay! Therapy can be a place where you learn more about yourself, your family of origin and the world around you. Even though life is hard we can still have peace. With a mindfulness approach, we can help you find your safe place. We can change how you relate to the world and your suffering in a manner that benefits you. In a life that can sometimes be a rollercoaster, we will work together to handle the ups and downs.

I have practiced as a counselor since graduating with my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2001.
Hello! I am glad we found each other. Everyone needs support at some point and it takes a lot of courage to step out and ask for help. I respect those who do so a great deal! Thank you for taking the time to consider me as a helper. While it is important to understand about my credentials and approach to therapy, it is also important that you know I respect you and I will be very careful about our counseling relationship. Your health and growth are important to me.

I believe in humanistic philosophy. People have room to grow in order to fulfill their life yearnings. However, many life experiences possibly block that potential and these blocks show as depression, anxiety, and many other symptoms. I want to be with people to assist in the enrichment of their lives. Individuals need to be healthy in various levels to share their lives in a family and a community. We can explore together to find what is interfering in life and enrich them to reach true potentials.

Your story may include experiencing cycles of depression, anxiety, grief, past trauma, struggles of worthiness and belonging, the complexities of being a part of an immigrant family, generational trauma, a combination of these things, or perhaps something entirely different.
Imagine you are the writer. You have all the pieces of your story within you already. Think of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors as those pieces. Sometimes, they don’t make any sense, it’s overwhelming, and you don’t know where to begin. That’s where I come in. While I cannot write your story for you, I can be there with you to guide you through the process as you explore and learn more about yourself, reach clarity and understanding, and experience a renewed sense of hope.

Or we can go “scuba diving”, for example, looking into your history, roots, family and past experiences.
Being a responsible adult and managing all the demands of your day to day life can take a toll on your energy and mood. Many of us, even those who “should be OK, and have it all” get by with a bare minimum of reserve and just function or survive. I want to help you get to “thrive”, to free up that energy that is locked in the past, in the stories we tell ourselves that are not updated with our strengths and growth, and our difficulties and traumas. This will allow you be more present in the day to day and have a fuller, more joyful life.

I have experience working with Depression, Bi-polar, Anxiety, Loneliness, PTSD, ADD, ADHD and ODD, marriage/relationship, family and transitioning through divorce or life changes, including starting over.
There are those days when just getting out of bed is difficult. Having someone help manage struggles and figuring life out is important. The twist and turns of life can leave one feeling drained, exhausted, and in a mental fog, or a loss of wanting to or even knowing how to move forward. This is where I come in, helping those who are stuck, lost, hopeless and who cannot figure out what’s going on inside, feeling there is no way out, or even making unhelpful choices in life. Possibly a teenager or young adult scared about life or the future and managing stress. This is why I am here.

Life is busy and can be complicated and messy. Balancing relationships, family, work, and your health is a challenge. You probably can’t remember the last time you took the time to care for YOU! Do you struggle to find balance in your life and time to take care of yourself? Do you struggle with partner, personal, or professional relationships? Do you feel defeated as a parent? Do you feel overwhelmed by feelings, worries, and stress? Do you feel exhausted from creating “what ifs” in your head, feeling dread and uncertainty about the future? Does chronic illness impact your life? Don’t worry, there is hope!

Learning why we do what we do is important, but then comes that key question of what to do with that information. My goal is to create a safe space for self-discovery, but also an active space, a brave space in which we explore new perspectives and frameworks for seeing. I specialize in relationship conflict, stagnation/burnout, depression, anxiety, religious trauma, and those who wish to work with and understand the different parts of themselves through an Internal Family Systems (IFS) perspective.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
