My clients come to me when they are experiencing an increase in stress and anxiety or are feeling sad, lonely or overwhelmed. Something in their life is not working or is suddenly more difficult than before. I help my clients develop an appreciation for their own stories and to make sense of uncomfortable feelings that prevent them from pursuing goals, that cause problems in relationships or hold them back from creating more satisfying and fulfilling social, family and work lives.

Do you feel stuck in significant areas of your life and look for hope and trust that change is possible? People who seek my help often feel anxious, depressed and struggle with low self-esteem or shame. I help my clients to identify what stands in the way of personal fulfillment, and meaningful engagement with others, be that in their relationships, family, or the social/work environment. Together, we will work on identifying your needs, your goals, what gives you purpose and meaning, what you can do to get better, and how I can support that process.

My approach to therapy is integrative, informed by modalities such as IFS, family systems, narrative, imago, EFT, somatic resourcing, and psychodynamics.
When we face challenges in life such as difficulties in relationships, life transitions and/or past trauma resurfacing, we can experience isolation, anxiety, sadness and overwhelming feelings. Making an effort to take the first steps towards positive changes is not always easy. Together we will explore difficult emotions and experiences, gain clarity, see new perspectives, and develop ways of living a more balanced life with internal peace.

Are you a middle-aged professional who’s thought about therapy, but perhaps been unsure of or felt undeserving of it in the past? Do you want to change negative thoughts and behaviors, but have had difficulty doing so, don’t know where to start, or don’t believe you can? Do you desire to feel more confident in yourself and in your life? You may constantly question yourself and your decisions, accommodating others and neglecting your needs. You might be dissatisfied with your relationships, family, work, and even yourself, but you don’t know what to do about it.

Relationship therapy isn't just for married people; it is helpful for cohabiting couples, people in ENMRs, LGBTQ people, siblings dealing with family issues, or even business partners.
Are you experiencing frustration and disagreement in your relationship? Feeling defensive, shut down, or overwhelmed? Feeling like you are beating your head against the wall hoping for a different outcome? Do you feel stuck and crave more in your relationship? Do you feel lonely, taken for granted, and unappreciated? Do you carry the burden of the responsibilities in your home? Do you struggle to change your partner’s mind about divorce, rebuild trust, forgive and be forgiven, or save a marriage after an affair? Do you want to rekindle your love and passion, and most importantly understand how much you love your lives together?

I see a diverse range of patients, and consider with them the significance of the many contexts ( family, community, cultural, society) that inform their individual experiences.
I believe that a secure and genuine therapeutic relationship can make a difference in your life by facilitating a path to expanding self-awareness and opening up new ideas about what is possible. I combine a warm and empathic attitude with careful listening and an active effort to understand more. Together, my patients and I clarify their goals, examine conscious and unconscious obstacles, and investigate new perspectives.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
