I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist whose client population includes, individuals, couples, families and groups. Currently, I work with couples who are experiencing a loss of connection, as well as communication and intimacy difficulties. These couples are often facing life cycle transitions. I also work with families, primarily families with adolescent children. These families have children with behavioral issues, mental health challenges, and many times are dealing with trauma and loss. I also work with the LGBTQ population. My practice includes a culturally and socio-economically diverse population.

Child, Teen, & Family Therapist! I believe in treating the whole family to support growth and effective change. My experience has allowed me a variety of settings (outpatient, agency based, partial and inpatient hospitals, school systems) which have enhanced my skill set to support treating a spectrum of needs. I appreciate working with a young person and their support system from a place of mutual understanding. I am not afraid of a challenge but I think it's helpful to have a starting place of willingness. I do find it important to go at a client's pace, including their voice & choice in what treatment may look like.

I have a particular focus on men’s issues such as career, family, and fatherhood.
Accepting New Clients! At MPC, we practice strengths-based and solution-focused counseling. Strengths-based counseling seeks to empower the individual to build on the resilience that they already have. Solution-focused approaches are generally rooted in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and take a present day look at real world challenges the client is facing. Together, these approaches can be used to create new and lasting ways to cope with challenges from stress, depression, anxiety and trauma.

Kids may worry about their parents or others in the family.
Relationships, within and outside the family, are frequently the focus of concerns we have and affect every aspect of life. Finding a place to explore the way things are, have been, and the way we want them to be is an essential goal of successful therapy. We may need support in healing, looking within to better understand what in our lives has contributed to difficulty, discouragement, and disappointment. Understanding problems leads to finding solutions to conflicts within and between ourselves and others, so that healing can take place. Therapy is a cooperative process between therapist and client.

I believe it is an honor to do this work, and I am passionate about helping my LGBTQIA family find fulfillment and joy.
Our sense of happiness in life is directly related to our sense of satisfaction in our relationships. But all too often, our relationships with those closest to us cause the biggest stress. From day-to-day grievances to major interpersonal trauma, therapy can help navigate communication and support healing. I work specifically with people in queer relationships to address these stresses. I believe that the LGBTQIA community has unique life experiences that impact the success of traditional therapeutic models.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults in individual, couples, or family therapy.
For me, psychotherapy must address the needs of the person. Sometimes this can mean exploring how you got to the point you are at, and how you want to change; and sometimes you may want specific tools to address a very specific issue. Finding the right therapist is perhaps one of the most important choices you will make and also one of the most difficult. Although a therapist may have an armory of techniques to use, what I have found to be at the heart of any type of psychotherapy is whether the relationship works between you and your therapist.

I work with clients to reshape family relationship patterns and target their individual goals.
Creating change in your life and within your family relationships is possible! I support clients through the process of clarifying their goals and addressing the things that have been getting in the way of reaching them. I believe that every individual and family is unique and will provide clients with a balance of warmth and structure as I work with them to target and address the "why" behind their identified problem(s). I'm a family systems thinker and use elements of solution focused, cognitive behavioral, and The Gottman Method approach to therapy.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
