As a psychotherapist, I believe that each of us holds the capacity to utilize our personal creativity to resolve life's challenges. I seek to assist the folks I work with to find their strengths. I utilize a number of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused, EMDR, Ericksonian Hypnosis, and elements of Internal Family Systems and psychological astrology. Upon the initial therapy session, we will work together to determine the most beneficial modality for you, your family, or your child. In addition, I may suggest expressive arts as a vehicle to create life changes.

I operate primarily from a Systems and Cognitive Behavioral perspective and acknowledge trying to balance work, family, and social lives, the individual self, the past and present, and all the events that occur within and between those spheres can lead us to a state of overwhelm and stress overload that we are sometimes not equipped to manage.
I offer a supportive and collaborative space for you to freely and openly discuss your challenges, needs, and strengths so you may begin to heal what has been preventing continued growth, development, and life satisfaction.

We all have challenges in varying forms, some we can fix, others we can manage, and yet others we need some help to either fix or manage. I want to come alongside you with a spirit of collaboration to support you in fixing or managing whatever you are dealing with. I will create a safe space, a listening ear, and therapeutic feedback using evidence-based practices. I am going to be honest with you, that I am not here to fix you, but to support you in fixing or managing what you are challenged with. My style is laid back and meeting you where you are but expect to do work. I am genuine, open, compassionate, upbeat, and direct.

Eating disorders, body image concerns, and body dissatisfaction have been on the rise for years, with many reporting an increase in these concerns since the pandemic. Recovery can feel daunting and near impossible, but it is an attainable reality. I work with teens and young adults who are navigating recovery from eating disorders and negative body image, healing sexual trauma, processing relationship distress, and facing the unique challenges of adolescence and early adulthood.

Life is full of complicated and unpredictable challenges. From the stress of a job, school, and finances to relationships, marriage, and family, we are inundated with issues impacting our mental and physical wellbeing. I understand how this can feel defeating and overwhelming; however, healing and fortitude is possible.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
