My eclectic therapeutic approach uses framework from Relational Therapy, Family Systems Theory, Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as tools from Intimacy From the Inside Out (IFIO) and the PEERS program from the Semel Institute, UCLA.
In my practice, I support individuals, couples, and families as they navigate life transitions and engage in self-discovery. Together, we explore the roots of personal identity and consider tools to manage stressors of daily living. Clinically, I use framework from Internal Family Systems, Polyvagal Theory, and neuroscience from The Mindsight Institute to guide clients therapeutically.

I approach therapy through a psychodynamic lens. I believe in empowering patients to heal, grow, renew their sense of purpose, and foster hope. I create a space to reflect, learn, be challenged, and trust both in our relationship and in yourself. I consider psychotherapy to be a collaborative experience where exploration of past experiences is utilized to instill insight into what is happening in your life now. I work to understand who you are, how and where change may be possible, and what may be getting in the way of you living life the way you wish to. Therapy is a space for us to think together.

Emotional distress comes in many forms. We may feel a nagging unhappiness, a sense that our lives have become inauthentic, or have gotten off-track. We may feel held back or overwhelmed by anxiety or depression, or perhaps we’re struggling to re-start our lives in the aftermath of trauma. Sometimes it’s relationships in our lives that leave us conflicted or confused. At times pain can be a catalyst for growth. But when it goes on too long, it can end up preventing us from living fulfilling lives. That’s where I come in.

I work with each client to identify sources of distress and dissatisfaction in their lives, and to overcome obstacles to living a healthy and happy life. I begin therapy by gaining a clear understanding of your strengths as well as areas for growth, and building a strong working alliance. Together we identify therapy goals and formulate a plan to achieve them. I combine cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, DBT and humanistic approaches to tailor a unique therapy plan for each individual. My approach involves listening carefully and asking questions to help guide you to greater understanding about yourself and to make the changes that you seek.

The past few years have been challenging in many ways, adding new stressors to our already complex lives. It is easy to feel alone and overwhelmed. As your therapist I welcome the opportunity to offer you support and skills to assist you during these trying times. My approach includes meeting clients where they're at. This means that I empower clients to choose topics and set the pace of sessions without coming in with my own agenda. Working collaboratively, we will identify treatment goals and I will utilize interventions that are supported by research and tailored to your unique needs, neurotype and circumstances.

As a psychotherapist and Life Coach I am trained in clinical social work as well as in exercise physiology. I understand how the mind, body and emotions are interconnected. When we are physically attuned, we are able to access deeper parts of ourselves. These deeper parts may be limiting due to old beliefs, negative behavior patterns, confusing emotions, and often times a combination of all three. Also, I bring to my clinical practice over 28 years experience in fitness and coaching team sports. Together we can work to set and achieve clear, obtainable life goals.

Are you interested in a more holistic approach that addresses emotions, cognitions, body armor and inner spiritual resources? If so, we can collaborate to release old patterns and access creative energy, build confidence and insight and enhance work and relationships. Trauma, mood disorders, transitions, grief and loss, sexual identity issues, and family issues are common areas of concern that can transform through a positive, strengths-based approach.

"To feel better." "To improve relationships." "To get un-stuck." These are some of the reasons people come into therapy. If you are experiencing symptoms that are making life a challenge, I'm interested in working with you to achieve the results you want.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
