I am a marriage and family therapist who works with individuals, couples and families from a narrative perspective.  I believe clients have rich stories to tell about who they are and wish to be, what values they hold, and how to move through their lives in preferred ways. However, sometimes problems get in their way. I believe clients are the experts of their lives and I see people as separate from these problems. I practice from a collaborative, strength-based perspective which is client-centered.

During my time in this field, I have worked with clients working through a variety of mental health and life challenges, including but not limited to, ADHD, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, suicidality, self injurious behaviors, eating disorders, personality disorders, divorce/relationship trouble, changes in family dynamics, and executive dysfunction.
My ideal client is someone who is willing to work with me and engage with me effectively. This includes open lines of communication and utilizing therapy times efficiently. However, I am always honest in my assessments, thoughts, and opinions with clients, and my hope is that my client will do the same. My ideal client is a client who is eager to talk and is open to feedback. My ideal client is also someone who is willing to work through set backs or challenges, together as a team.

I wanted to get into the mental health field from a young age, as I was always surrounded by friends and family who struggled with mental health.
I am a Licensed Social Worker with a passion for decreasing the stigma surrounding mental health and promoting the health and well being of my clients. For my undergraduate degree, I moved from Central Jersey (Yes! It exists!) to South Jersey to attend Stockton University. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work with a Minor in Behavioral Neuroscience from Stockton, and then moved on to attend graduate school in Philadelphia. I received my Master of Social Work Degree with a clinical concentration from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Practice in May of 2020.

Immediate Availability M-Th for telehealth only. Being a parent is hard, even under the best of circumstances. When you have a child struggling with mental health, the job can become even harder. You might find yourself feeling scared or overwhelmed, having lots of questions but finding few answers. The good news is that you and your child don't have to go through this alone- I'm here to help. As a clinician, I know that the effects of mental health are felt far beyond the individual. Though I work with children and adolescents, I believe in having a collaborative relationship with all members of the family.

My hospice experience influences my ability to provide comfort and direction for those living with a terminal illness, as well as caregivers, family and friends who are supporting a loved one with a life limiting diagnosis.
Finding and asking for help is not easy. I understand that trust and opening up to a complete stranger...a therapist, can be unsettling. One of my greatest strengths is creating a safe, empathic and non-judgmental space for us to begin our work together. Collaboratively and at your own pace...we will identify patterns of behavior, shifts in thinking and identify what is working for you and what is not. We will explore skills that will help you to create the change you desire within yourself or your environment.

I would work with the client through talk therapy to identify family relationships/ family dynamics and provide empathy to explore and process what they believe are healthy attachments and relationships and why.
The ideal client would finally be open to change and hope to have better interpersonal relationships. This can be a client who struggles with their anxiety, possibly has poor attachment styles, and struggles with holding meaningful relationships (romantic, platonic, familial). Their goals would be identifying healthy boundaries and healthy responses, increasing effective communication skills, and identifying past relationships/present relationships in order to identify patterns/habits.

This is why I often find the best therapeutic work occurs when the therapist is able to work with the entire family system.
I specialize in working with children to build their existing social-emotional skills in conjunction with their parents to best support the family's journey. This work includes building skills to improve positive communication, emotional regulation, ability to identify and understand feelings, social relationships, and other challenges they may be experiencing, including anxiety and depression. My experience has made me passionate about the importance of using a collaborative approach to child therapy. I believe that individuals and families are experts in their own lives.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
