Welcome to my profile! I am a bilingual English/Spanish therapist licensed in California and Texas. I have over 12 years of experience providing individual and family therapy to children, college students and adult individuals. I provide a variety of services from supporting parent-child relationships to treatment focused on trauma, anxiety and depression. My hope is that at the end of treatment my clients have a better understanding of their emotions, their strengths, skills to manage hard emotions/situations and feel empowered. In addition, I enjoy integrating culture and each person specific values into the therapeutic work.

With thirteen years of experience in the field, I have had the opportunity to work with clients who have different problems, needs and objectives. People of all ages, ethnicities and cultures; therefore, giving me the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding on how to detect and treat various conditions. I am a bilingual LMFT. In 1991 I obtained a B.H in Social Psychology from The Universidad Autonoma de Baja California (Mexico). In 2008, I graduated from University of Phoenix with a M.A in Marriage, Family, and Child therapy. Hello there! I'm Sonia Becerra, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 7 years of clinical experience. I have worked with children, teens, adults and families. I have spent the last 4 years working in a community mental health agency dedicated to adults who are dual-diagnosed (e.g. mental health and substance abuse disorders). I have also worked in a California State Prison as a Substance Abuse Treatment Provider.

I am a licensed psychotherapist focused on working with adults and elders (65+). I work with clients to help them be better able to manage life's challenges, increase self esteem and improve communication skills. In my work, I favor a holistic approach, where all aspects of the person - mental, emotional, behavioral, physical - are addressed, and I employ a blend of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and mindfulness methods, to enable people to learn to shift their thinking, change their behavior, and live in the present with a more balanced life, and a deeper sense of well being.

New Life Counseling Center is a progressive and inclusive Christian counseling center in Mission Valley offering individual, couples, family and premarital counseling. Our therapists consist of both licensed Psychologists and Marriage & Family Therapists in addition to qualified Marriage & Family Therapist interns. Some of our therapists also have degrees from seminaries and some are ordained pastors. In addition to Christian counseling, we also see clients who have no religious or spiritual affiliation.
