Yes I have availability. No, I'm not in network with insurance. Your out of network benefits may cover. I'm very easy to talk to. Do you have trouble sleeping? Are you overwhelmed? Do you have a sense of doom? Have friends and/or family commented on the amount of alcohol or drugs you can take? If so, you may benefit from seeing me. Since 1996, I have worked extensively with people struggling with Substance Use Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, and Grief. I also take a secular approach to those who have experienced religious trauma. If you have struggled with any of these issues, I can definitely help.

Hello, I'm Kate, a dedicated child therapist with a passion for helping children and families overcome challenges and heal from trauma. With a background in working with at-risk adolescents and families, I've honed my skills in creating a safe and supportive environment for children to thrive. I now specialize in using play therapy and a variety of evidence-based techniques to assist children who have faced domestic violence, divorce, traumatic events, behavioral issues, anxiety, fear, and impulsivity. I firmly believe that children communicate through play, and it's through this medium that I listen and connect with them.

Focus is on Depression, Anxiety, Personality Disorders, Substance Abuse/Recovery, Traumas, Relationships, LGBT, Family, Anger, and in a word, "LIFE" issues along with PTSD.
Typically, my client's have been told that a problem exists in the areas of personality, substance abuse, or both. They have trouble coping with, or interfacing with their emotional environments. I understand that meeting the client where they're at emotionally and accepting how they see their existence through their eyes, is our foundation to treatment. My therapeutic approach is designed to empower clients from a position of knowledge, versus fear. Unless we can uncover the reason(s) for acting out, and develop alternatives that meet the client's needs, then it is unlikely that change(s) can be sustained.

My ideal clients are individuals who experience recurring patterns of perceived failure in their relationships, behaviors, potential, or self-esteem. These individuals often feel immobilized, isolated, trapped, or despairing about their prospects for fostering a positive future. Typically, they stand to benefit markedly from an enhanced understanding of their innate strengths and a more constructive viewpoint regarding cycles of self-defeating behavior and underlying belief systems. I have observed that these clients seek authentic connections and wish to feel valued, respected, and acknowledged as contributing members of society.

One of the most challenging issues is learning to identify, manage and eventually control anxiety. It wastes your physical and psychic energy and disrupts your daily life, including your sleep. Another is properly diagnosing clinical depression and creating a realistic treatment plan of action. Our daily stressors fuel some of the above problems and other personal challenges that impact not only our mental health but our physical health. Working together and supporting your strengths, wisdom and ideas we will return and recapture the well-being and inner peace all of us strive for.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
