I utilize CBT, DBT, ACT, and client focused therapies.
I work with a variety of clients and they come to me with many different challenges to overcome. I’ve worked extensively with trauma victims and personality disorders, especially borderline personality disorder - which is treatable despite many clinicians turning their backs on this problem. I also have a high level of expertise in LGBT issues, especially those starting their transition journey to another gender. It is gratifying to be a part of helping clients achieve change and I’m honored to be trusted in the process.

I use techniques and interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, yoga, and any other school of thought I come across that can help people.
One of my favorite things about counseling is that I get to assist people in coming to the realization of just how capable and amazing they really are. I help people work through many concerns ranging from anxiety, depression, and trauma, to dealing with life transitions and coping with everyday concerns. I work hard to provide you with a safe, supportive, nonjudgmental space where your sense of resilience can grow. The ultimate goal is for you to leave feeling equipped to handle life's challenges on your own. It's time to make positive changes in your life, and I'm here to help.

My belief is that the client knows best so I work from a person centered approach, but I also pull from different modalities such as CBT, DBT, solution focused, motivational interviewing and reality therapy, based on the client’s needs.
I utilize creativity and autonomy through art therapy and talk therapy to create a safe environment to promote healing for all ages. Sometimes it is difficult to find the words to express ourselves and art can be another way to communicate those thoughts, feelings and experiences. Or just talking if you prefer! I specialize in managing symptoms of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma, emotion dysregulation as well as addictive behaviors.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy can help you, your family, and your child to heal.
No matter how hard you try to help your teenager, it doesn’t make any difference. He’s angry all the time. He skips school and is failing his classes. The other day, you smelled alcohol on his breath. He seems to be spiraling out of control. It’s so hard to watch your child suffer and be unable to help him. You wonder where things went so wrong. You treated him just like your other kids and did everything you were supposed to. But you can’t help feeling like you’re failing him as a parent. His behavior is affecting your entire household and taking an emotional toll on your family. You desperately want to help him but don’t know how.

Using Dialectical Behavior Therapy, I’ll teach you conflict resolution and communication tools to use when you and your teen need them most.
What else can I do? Your daughter isn’t getting any better. You got her a therapist. A psychiatrist. You even participated in therapy yourself. But still, she’s not any happier, calmer, or easier to live with. In fact, things seem to be getting worse. Her emotions and behaviors are becoming more erratic. She comes home late at night, dropped off by strange older boys. She always wears long sleeves, and you think it’s to hide her self-harming. Every attempt to talk to her just leads to another vicious screaming match. You know just how capable, smart, and fun she can be, but you’re terrified you may never see that side of her again.

I use CBT, DBT, and Solution Focused work, using mindfulness, breathing techniques, visualization, and goal setting to help clients reach their short and long-term goals.
My ideal client is someone who comes to therapy in a time of need. They might be experiencing anxiety due to life changes and transitions or they might be experiencing symptoms of anxiety for the first time and be concerne as to where the anxiety came from. The client might be processing loss or grief from a loved one or past friendships and or relationships. My ideal client will have needs such as needing to identify coping skills to get through life stressors, assistance with reaching goals. As a therapist I would be able to provide the client with a objective perspective to bounce their ideas and situations off of.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
