I am intensively trained in both CBT and DBT.
We cannot avoid stress and painful experiences in our lives. However, we can develop effective coping skills to reduce our suffering and to develop meaning. I believe that effective treatment consists of helping clients to balance both acceptance and change- by learning to live alongside what is beyond our control, while making the necessary changes in our lives to reach our true potential.

Daytime and Virtual availability! Welcome to my corner of the therapy world! I’m here to help you reach whatever goal brings you to therapy. I work from a person-centered approach, meaning that I believe you probably already have what it takes to tackle what's in front of you, but sometimes we need reinforcement, and there I am. I also draw from other therapeutic approaches as needed, because therapy is far from a “one-theory-fits-all” situation.

People can look like they "have it all together" but feel like their world is falling apart. People often put on a brave face, smile, and say "I'm fine" but they are crumbling inside, finding it difficult to focus. Struggles with family, relationships, work, and school may stem from different experiences that have affected how a person develops emotionally and how a person sees the world around them. The sadness and emotional disconnect that occurs can cause loneliness and anger; anxiety and pain.

As a neurodivergent, queer, fat therapist, I understand the importance of finding your people and providing reciprocity by bringing my authentic self into the therapy space as I would hope my clients feel safe to do. I do not believe in the oppressive concept of ‘normal’ and work to model the vulnerable act of unmasking in a judgment-free environment. I am conversational and work to weave therapeutic techniques and concepts into our dialogues in an accessible way. I continually emphasize my clients’ autonomy over how sessions are conducted and support them in identifying their needs and evolving goals in the work.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
