Each one of us has the capacity to change our own path with the help of transformative therapy. Anxiety, depression, frustration, loneliness and feelings of helplessness can impact our daily lives- yet we have the ability to change our perspective. Hope, joy and purpose can be found by processing our feelings to move forward in a positive direction. Helping people heal, begin to affirm who they are, and process their thoughts and feelings to fully embrace their future is the focus of my practice.

You are unique, and have something valuable to express, offer, and live. We suffer when we feel cut off from this, when the circumstances and experiences of life do not reflect our deepest knowing of self. Depression, anxiety; feeling stuck, un-motivated, lost, dissatisfied with life; addiction, unhealthy relationships, illness, loss.... These are all wake-up calls, sacred opportunities to learn to love oneself more fully; invitations to transform and heal. I help people restore clarity, connection, love, and get to the root of what's blocking their full aliveness.

My specialty is in dealing with anxiety, depression, and crisis intervention.
I work with individuals from a strengths-based, person-centered perspective. I also like to incorporate interpersonal neurobiology to help you learn to sit with emotions in your body. I let you take the lead - after all, these sessions are all about you! I think it's important to spend time getting to know my clients and making our time together a conversation as opposed to a Q&A session. It's important to me that you feel heard and understood. I am direct but kind, and tailor my approach to specifically address your mental health needs as you define them.

Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.`` - Khalil Gibran My ideal clients are willing to look at the somatic elements of who they are, become more mindful of their internal sensations and return to the present moment. They'll begin to understand that change can happen, that they can become unstuck, and find healing and growth. I am particularly interested in working with clients who are depressed, have anxiety disorders, including social phobia, and young adults who are experiencing a "failure to launch".
It is a natural part of the human experience to go through difficult times at some point in our lives. We all may benefit from asking for and accepting help while having a crisis or staying stuck. if I am not able to help you, I will refer you to someone who is the right fit for you.

I specialize in proven treatments for Trauma, Depression, Anxiety, Anger and Suicidality.
It is often said that, "time heals all wounds". Well,..NOT if that wound is infected! Find a place of True Healing. We live in stressful times. Many people are tired of pushing through life wearing the mask/facade that "everything is fine", when underneath it isn't. It would be an honor for me to be invited to walk alongside you in your journey to restoring joy in life and getting closer to being the person you want to be. I encourage you to take the step of caring for yourself by starting therapy. Instead of continuing the facade, put on your "oxygen mask" FIRST, so you can continue to help and care for the people in your life.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
