As a therapist, I know that sometimes, you may just need someone to listen and walk through a difficult season in life with you. You may find yourself in need of a safe place to explore your thoughts and feelings about dating, a significant relationship or a life transition. You may be coping with pain in ways that are self-destructive, or feeling "stuck", sad, and/or overwhelmed by worry. I offer understanding and caring, compassionate feedback. My goal is to help you tap into your own inner wisdom, so that you can heal, grow, and thrive- ultimately living a more fulfilling life.

I have helped thousands of couples learn to better communicate by being respectful, kind and considerate to each other so they can achieve more enjoyable lives together, which they can now maintain on their own without ongoing therapy.
The partnership you share with your significant other holds unparalleled potential for fulfillment, yet it also presents formidable trials. Together, we can delve into the nuances of nurturing relationship contentment and coherence. Such a journey demands persistent effort, unwavering dedication, and a willingness to negotiate. Every partnership is a unique composition, and my goal is to foster an environment where both partners feel empowered to express their emotions, concerns, and aspirations. In essence, I'm here to illuminate the path forward, bolstering your partnership's foundation, and fortifying its walls.

The third group is individuals, families, and couples dealing with addictive behaviors.
A main focus of my therapy is joining clients in what they are going through. Therapeutic workbooks are great, but there is a big difference between opening up to a workbook versus opening up to a human being. When we open up to another person we make ourselves vulnerable. That is when true growth begins. I set out to try and help people deal with the core issues, as well as enhance their core strengths. When there is recovery in the core, the symptoms can be dealt with. Our problematic situations and behaviors are but a symptom. Website: jeremyharveymft.com

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
