Therapy is an art and a science, and I love bringing the two together in an affirming and sex-positive way.
Have you always felt different from others, but weren’t exactly sure why? The societal pressure to hide your true self can feel so pervasive that the phrase “just be yourself!” has lost most significance. It can be incredibly disheartening to feel as if something is “wrong” with you for feeling emotions intensely. We all have a meaningful story to tell, and I believe in fostering a warm, affirming, and non-judgmental environment for people to discover themselves and question what it means to be human. I love helping others find their voice, explore their identity, unpack shame, and manage the overwhelm of life.

I provide community based services using a variety of techniques. People truly desire happiness and want to perform at their highest levels but life places "blocks" that prevent them from reaching those goals. By removing the "blocks" I can assist the client in finding pleasure and success in life. My unique educational and professional background of Clinical and Sport & Performance Psychology as well as 8 years experience of being a licensed special education teacher enables me to provide a combination of services unlike that of any other clinician in the state. Technology is also a staple of my practice.

My approach is informed by the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, TCI, art therapy, mindfulness, somatics, attachment theory, IFS, and a humanistic lens.
You’re raising (or maybe are) someone who feels deeply—quick to laugh, quick to cry, quick to get overwhelmed. Big emotions and sensitive nervous systems can bring incredible gifts...and real challenges. Maybe you're seeing outbursts, shutdowns, identity confusion, or family disconnection. You want to feel more grounded, more connected, and to parent or live in a way that honors your true self—or your child’s.

Art Therapy often surprises people.
Healing looks different for everyone — and it rarely begins with having the right words. If you've been putting off therapy because you're not sure where to start, or you're wondering whether talking about it will actually help, that's okay. A lot of people feel that way. Whether you're working through trauma, struggling with anxiety, navigating a major life change, or simply feeling stuck, I'm here to meet you exactly where you are — in a space where there's no pressure to have it all figured out before you walk in the door.

I also draw from Art Therapy, CBT, and Narrative Therapy to support expression, insight, and lasting change.
Do you find yourself struggling with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, or relationship patterns that seem to repeat no matter how hard you try to change them? Many people I work with feel exhausted, confused, or disconnected from themselves, especially when emotions feel intense or difficult to manage. Often, these struggles are rooted in childhood emotional wounds, attachment patterns, or experiences shaped by generational or intergenerational trauma.

I work with children, young adults, and adults, especially women, who are navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, and the emotional impact of chronic illness. Many clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or like they have it "together" on the outside but are struggling internally. I strive to create a space that feels warm, supportive, and genuinely safe. Therapy should be a place where you can show up exactly as you are. Together, we'll build practical coping skills, process life's challenges, and help you feel more grounded, confident, and connected to yourself and life :)

When I think about therapy, I envision an individual carrying a little too much for a little too long, just seeking a little relief; someone to help them carry it all. I'd love to be that person for you. I enjoy working with those who are seeking healing from challenging/codependent relationships, trauma, navigating grief and loss, depression and anxiety, and/or simply have a desire to be in therapeutic contact with a supportive individual. As Ram Dass says, at the end of the day we are all just walking each other home. Let's help you return to "home", and find what peace looks like for you.

By having a background in play, art and sandplay therapy, I am able to connect with individuals that may not want to go the traditional route of talk therapy.
Hi name is Justien, she/her/hers, and I am the owner of Soothing Sands Therapy, LLC. I specialize in working with children, adolescents and young adults. I am fascinated with how the brain works finding ways to make the growth process go as smoothly as possible. It is because of my interest in brain development that I have found alternative ways to do therapy other than talking. When we think about adolescent and adolescent years, we just want to survive it but my passion is to help others not only get through it, but thrive through those years. I'm also available to provide supervision to individuals pursuing careers in counseling.

Art Therapy
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
