Many teens and adults struggle in the traditional model of talk therapy. Trauma, anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts can sometimes make connecting with a therapist intimidating and exhausting. I offer telehealth and animal-assisted therapy, mindfulness practices, and expressive arts to individuals who have tried it all and have been frustrated with their results or maybe just desire the comfort of an animal during sessions. My warm, compassionate, collaborative, and easy-going approach allows you to relax, trust, and feel safe enough to explore the difficult aspects of your life so healing can begin.

I work with children, adolescents and adults who are primarily dealing with anxiety, depression and relationship issues. Emotional health is as important as physical health. We work together to understand how to accomplish change. I work in medical and mental health settings with the belief that integrating feelings with appropriate behavior creates a more peaceful existence. This summer I will be offering psychotherapy with equine assistance for kids (individual and group treatment) ages 6-adolescents at Affinity Ranch in Parker, CO.

We all get stuck or feel lost sometimes. It's an inevitable part of being human. But for members of the Military, First Responders, and their families, this can be especially difficult. I don't feel that people are "broken," and I don't feel that people need to be "fixed." Sometimes, we may feel that way, but that doesn't make it true. If you are an Active Military service member, a Veteran, an Emergency Responder, or a family member or caregiver in these communities, then I am here to help, guide, counsel, and to listen without judgment.

My approach is social justice oriented, affirming, strength-based, liberatory, trauma-informed, transformative healing that cultivates positive long-lasting change.
It is hard to ask for help and talk about life’s struggles; it is also hard not to. You deserve to experience joy, have a voice, and discover your most authentic self. I am passionate about empowering you to live your values with intentionality and purpose, gain insights into barriers, and create the change you seek. I want to support you in learning how to implement your strengths, live more mindfully, and leverage your power to live a better life and reach your goals. I believe in our need for connection, love, and to feel whole and that the absence of these feelings can be the basis for some of our struggles and suffering.

As a therapist, I have a strength-based lens in my approach.
Pain is an experience that can feel scary, isolating, and everlasting. Whether it be emotional, physical, mental, or relational, pain takes on many forms and can disguise itself in different ways. Has a painful event left you feeling overwhelmed? Are you, or somebody you know, battling with a serious medical condition? Do you face challenges in life that leave you feeling stuck?

By taking an affirming and strength-based approach to therapy, I strive to meet my client where they are while reaching their goals.
The clients that I typically work with come from diverse backgrounds and present with an array of concerns, including but certainly not limited to anxiety, depression, trauma, relational dynamics, infidelity, parenting changes, nontraditional family styles, LGBTQ+ identities, kink, polyamory, non-monogamous relationships, marginalized populations, underserved populations, and the list continues. No matter what brings you to therapy, if this is your first or fourth time, I believe healing is always possible, and you can enact change in your life.

This includes a strength-based, holistic approaches such as mindfulness practices, exercises to reconnect the body and mind, and powerful growth mindset techniques.
“I want to like myself but I just don’t know how...” “Once I am perfect, then I will be accepted/loved...” “I don’t even know where to start. It’s too hard...” “I feel like I just don’t belong sometimes...” If this sounds familiar, I am here to help you grow. You may not believe it’s possible to become the person you dream of being, but I know you can. I help to change my client’s own inner voices to be more kind and accepting of themselves. I want to help you bring a sense of clarity and compassion into your life, to embody a calmer and more focused purpose and give you courage to live the life you’ve always wanted.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
