As a psychologist in practice for 20 years, I have experience working with a wide range of problems including depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, poor self-esteem, work-related stress, difficulty managing emotions, sexuality concerns, and addictions/compulsions. I have a particular expertise in helping individuals and couples work through relationship problems. My aim is to help people to develop greater self-awareness and internal strength, find meaning and hope, and create more satisfying relationships.

Unlike psychiatry where medication is prescribed to prevent your feelings from being experienced, my practice is designed to make sense and make use of the sensations we are receiving from ourselves. Professionally bringing our attention to psychological symptoms puts us in direct contact with the core of our conflict(s) and sets forth a personal resolution.

My unique background has included working with racially, ethnically, culturally, sexually and spiritually diverse individuals, including soldiers returning from combat with PTSD. I have a heart for alleviating human suffering, offering a safe, comfortable, welcoming space in which to explore painful experiences. I am sensitive, gentle, understanding and caring.

You worked up the courage to have "the talk" with your partner about opening your relationship, and you weren't sure how to do that. You wanted to spice things up and have some fun, and in the excitement of this new relationship, you didn't really understand what you were getting yourself into. Now that you're open, things are not as exciting as you hoped. You’re getting upset, having more arguments, feeling jealous, or are filled with fear and anxiety that this will ruin your relationship, maybe even end it. This was supposed to be fun but only made things even harder. Something has to change.

I am a Mindfulness and Trauma Resilience trainer who believes success and happiness result from a balanced mindset. Being stuck in unhealthy patterns, failing to accomplish the change we desire, or sustaining the nurturing relationships we deserve are all issues we expect to resolve on our own, but when we can't we feel defeated. Therapy is support that helps unearth our own best solutions while increasing skills and practices that grow fulfillment.

I also understand that true intimacy is created from the client-patient relationship, therefore it is tantamount to find the right therapist that you (the patient) feels safe/comfortable enough to say anything that is needed in order to illicit insight/change. I ask that all my clients outline specific therapeutic goals so that together we be clear as to our purpose and stay the course of treatment. Separated by stigma, trauma and addictive behaviors can make people feel isolated and like they are just going through the motions, living life on autopilot. If you identify as Poly/Non-monogamous, Kinky/fetishistic, Queer/Trans, or Anti-capitalist you already know the tyrannical way normativity polices “others” who deviate from conventional cultural scripts. Even more so when your preferred expressions of intimacy and embodiment are deemed “problematic”. I do not equate “healthy” with “normal”, nor aim to be prescriptive about how you “ought“ to experience being in this world. Living along the fringes of normativity isn’t an easy choice. But it can be a worthy choice, fulfilling and purposeful! Yet it may also be accompanied by high costs that feel compromising to dignity & self-worth.

I’ve always had a passion for helping queer folx get through the challenges that come with being queer-identified in a heteronormative society. My mission is to create a safe, warm, nonjudgmental setting for queer folx and allies to address the struggles that life has served up. Whether you need coping skills to improve daily functioning, want to gain insight into deeper issues, desire more security in your relationship, or require relief from sexual troubles, my focus is on you and your intentions.
