I help men throughout California confront their trauma, understand the impact it has on them and their relationships, build healthier coping strategies, and start to heal from the wounds inflicted by the abuse/ assault.
Nothing can erase the past; however, with detailed understanding of how men experience abuse, the proper support and guidance and, most importantly, the safe space to begin the emotional healing, life can get so much better. One size doesn’t fit all. Different situations require different approaches. I work with clients one-on-one and in groups.

On the surface, your life looks fine—good even. But inside, there’s a gap you can’t seem to bridge between how you’re perceived and who you actually are. Maybe you’ve found yourself stuck in loops of overthinking, questioning everything you do, or feeling disconnected from the person you once were. You’re tired of waking up filled with anxiety, dread, or a vague sense that something’s just not right. Maybe you’ve tried quick fixes to push those feelings down, or even been to therapy before but didn’t make as much progress as you’d hoped. You’re searching for something deeper. A way to find clarity and make real change in your life.

You feel broken, stuck, and afraid to talk about what happened. Why bring up things you want to forget? You tried talking about it and you were told “you have it better than I did” or weren’t believed. You pushed it down but end up exhausted and empty inside. You're ashamed. Was it your fault? You try to act normal but no one knows the real you. You don’t have energy and don’t know what you enjoy. You don't have friends, you are too burned out. When you aren’t numb you're angry, anxious, and second guessing everything. Why can't you get over it? You keep reliving the mistakes that reinforces the “proof" of your worthlessness.

Therapy is for coping, healing, and growing. It unlocks your life - allowing it to operate smoother, easier. Our mental, emotional, and physical states break down during grief, trauma, life transitions, crisis, and relationship distress. Let's shrink those issues together! I live in San Diego, but grew up and have held a practice in Atlanta for 20 years. Licensed in both states, so if you travel, go to school, or work in both states it can open up that virtual option for you since we have to be licensed in the state "where your feet are" at the time of our session.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
