I treat each family according to its specific and unique needs.
You love your child, but raising them is a different story. They are falling behind in school, they are sneaking out, and they refuse to listen. There is chaos in the house and the arguments seem never ending. Respect is gone and the power struggle continues. Judgement and shame comes from friends and family members and you are at a loss of what to do because no matter what you've done, nothing seems to work. You must be overwhelmed and exhausted. Don't blame yourself for your child's out of control behavior!

Anxiety can be an unrelenting companion, whispering worst-case scenarios and drowning out the voice of reason. The knots in your stomach, the racing heart, the feeling of impending doom. The weight of sadness can be suffocating, draining your energy and leaving you in a constant state of emotional numbness. Through our sessions, I will help you uncover the roots of your anxiety and sadness, providing you with coping strategies to manage their grip on your life. I want you to know that there is hope beyond this darkness. Your pain does not define you, but your journey toward healing can shape your story in remarkable ways.

A main focus of my therapy is joining clients in what they are going through. Therapeutic workbooks are great, but there is a big difference between opening up to a workbook versus opening up to a human being. When we open up to another person we make ourselves vulnerable. That is when true growth begins. I set out to try and help people deal with the core issues, as well as enhance their core strengths. When there is recovery in the core, the symptoms can be dealt with. Our problematic situations and behaviors are but a symptom. Website: jeremyharveymft.com

Life is so hard. There are no manuals for life right now. Maybe you have no idea what to do, where to go, and how to get through. You are not alone. Therapy can be a place to find rest, support, encouragement, and direction.

You've realized your relationship isn't getting better, it's getting worse. Just when you think things are more peaceful, a difficult topic comes up, and the conversation devolves into another argument. You can't talk about anything important, important to you at least. When you do try to talk again, one of you feels defensive with strong emotions, the other of you feels disrespected or picked on. How do you communicate if you can't get past the start of a conversation? Your partner feels too fragile, so you just shut down to protect yourself and your partner from difficult emotions.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
