Welcome! I am Timothy Gartz, MSW Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Mesa, Arizona. My greatest desire is to provide a professional environment of trust in order to explore any of your challenges or life adjustments. I am a skilled therapist with 20 years of practical experience in a variety of locations and settings including private practice, broad state health clinics in Hawaii, St. Louis, and Denver as well as internationally in Hong Kong and Shanghai. These experiences allow me to provide personalized solution focused services that are culturally competent and tailor made to help you regain confidence and achieve your goals.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in the treatment of addiction, marriage and relationship problems, depression, anxiety, life skills, low self-esteem and other mental health issues. I have worked extensively with the following addictions: drugs and alcohol, sex and pornography, and compulsive gambling. I also have in-depth experience working with teenage boys and girls ages 12-17 as a Clinical Director of an adolescent residential treatment center. I also have taught master level classes at Arizona State University in addiction, individual, family and group counseling.

Journeys Counseling Center has been providing exceptional counseling and therapy services to individuals, couples, families, and children for over 15 years. Our center specializes in a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. We believe that incorporating all facets of humanity (emotional, physical, relational, and spiritual) improves the outcome of treatment. We are especially passionate about encouraging healthy communication and relationships and stand strongly against the abuse of power in relationships and communities.

I received my Master's Degree in Direct Practice Social Work from Arizona State University with an emphasis on children and families. I am currently one of many counselors working at Arizona Family Institute. I have had many valuable experiences in working with individuals addressing crisis, abuse, depression, anxiety, tension, neglect, adjustment, addiction, and especially trauma.

Therapy is a collaborative experience where we work together on the reasons why you came to therapy. Through the growth and the development of the therapeutic relationship the reasons why you come to therapy can be explored in a safe and friendly environment so that you can become the person that you want to be. Also I accept many insurance plans through my private practice.

This crazy and challenging time we find ourselves in may seem overwhelming and too much at times. Life is not often fair and comes complete with complex issues. I desire to hear your story and come alongside you to develop the skills necessary to overcome adversity in your life. I employ psychological assessments and depending on the situation different clinical interventions in assisting my clients. I have found success with clients through the use of cognitive behavioral therapy along with dialectical behavior therapy, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, internal family systems, and person-centered approaches.

It can be quite confusing and discouraging when our thoughts, emotions and relationships seem chaotic, dysfunctional and hopeless. My goal is to help identify the WHY’s behind our feelings and behaviors and create a clear path moving forward to finding positive change.  I am here to help you gain lasting tools that will empower you in your journey of finding healing, connection, and peace in your life.

I am certified in Addictions, Trauma, and Narcissism Recovery. I am also a Yoga, Mindfulness, and Meditation Coach. I help people become curious about their emotions rather than fight with them. I help people realize they are not broken, they have picked up coping skills such as drugs or binge eating as protection. Instead of spending time fighting with the self and relapsing, we are going to get to know those parts of ourselves, and learn to regulate ourselves better. This is also true for couples therapy. I think getting to know those parts of us that get angry or shut down is important to our healing.
