It is a collaborative effort in order to help you make progress and sustain change once progress is made. Even though I'm seen as the professional, to me your're the professional of you're life and its my job to help guide you into a place where you feel comfortable. Welcome! I specifically work with neurodiversity at my practice. Neurodiversity is a fancy way of saying that I work with all different brain types or "neurotypes" in my practice. I work with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Sensory Processing issues, among other neurotypes. I am a neurodivergent therapist myself, and my lived experience helps me to empathize and relate to my clients deeply. I take an affirming lens in my sessions, combating stigma and ableism, and assisting my clients to become more fully themselves. I am EMDR trained and trauma informed in my approach to therapy.

My ideal client is "high-functioning." Ever heard of high-functioning anxiety, depression, and PTSD? High-functioners tend to look like they have it all together from the outside, but there's an ongoing battle inside. Queer and Neurospicy (ADHD & Autism Spectrum) people, I'm talking to you too! Masking is the norm by studying the world to act how they "should." Are you guilty of "shoulding" all over yourself? Pushing feelings deep down to keep moving forward is how they've survived the tough life stuff. Children who grew up worrying about upsetting their family or caring for everyone else often become self-abandoning adults.

I have also worked with children on the autism spectrum and improving men's sexual health.
I think we all can have a time in our lives where we reach a problem or a series of problems and are faced with the question of "how do I get through this?" or "what should I do?" Regardless of what brought you to that crossroad, therapy is a useful means to help you figure out what to do next. Your time is important and your life is meant to be full of happiness. We all are transitioning from something and have to make the choice about what is best for us. Live your life and enjoy it.

My areas of focus include consensual non-monogamy/polyamory, BIPOC lived experience, gender and sexual identity, and neurodivergence (ADHD and autism).
Hi there, my name is Sara (she/her). As a child of Middle-Eastern immigrants, late-diagnosed neurodivergent (ADHD) person, polyamorous individual, and queer woman, I am honored to have the opportunity to support other members of these minoritized communities in my clinical work. I work alongside clients through a lens of social justice and anti-racism, exploring how systemic oppression and social "norms" act as barriers to wellbeing, particularly for those of us who hold multiple marginalized identities. I work with adults, including individuals, couples, polycules, and other non-traditional relationship configurations.

Sentiero is an outpatient practice comprised of school psychologists, clinical psychologists, and registered psychological associates who conduct psychotherapy and psychological assessments. The approach at Sentiero is not a “one size fits all” model. While many of our clinicians utilize various theoretic modalities, we are grounded in psychoanalytic theory and tailor treatment to the needs of the patient.

As a queer Black Arab immigrant, I recognize the importance of how social identities can have a great impact on someone's mental health. Even navigating the mental health system can be exhausting and at times disappointing. In my practice, I aim to provide a safe space for people who often struggle to find one due to systemic and social injustices. I assist people in the healing of their trauma and processing difficult experiences as they navigate living in a society that is in itself in need of healing. I am passionate about my work and love being present with my clients through their journey of healing and self-discovery.

My ideal client is anyone who wants to make healthy changes in their life. The thing I love most about being a therapist is helping people change things in their lives that keep them from being the happiest, healthiest version of themselves that they can be. If they are willing to begin to take steps, I am thrilled to walk along side them and not give up until they reach their goals. I am happy to work with individual who have complex mental illness or who are simply working through change and transitions. I am comfortable working from a faith-based or a secular approach. I just want to help my clients function better.

As queer, transgender, Asian American, and neurodivergent, my therapeutic stance combines my professional and personal experiences with what I learn from you so we may co-create the best approach. Allow me to walk with you on your path, and I will lend guidance and perspective without ever imposing my will over yours. Let’s work together to find the next steps to whatever you bring, the middle path between the burdens and the joys. This can be more somatic-leaning, philosophically-inclined, skills-based, or any combination thereof.

Autism Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
