Going to therapy is one of the bravest things to do and I want to walk with you on that path of healing. As someone who has been on both sides of the therapeutic relationship, I understand the work and rewards that a positive therapy experience can make and I am honored to be a part of this field. I have had the privilege of working with a variety of clients working to better themselves and find healing from trauma, substance use, discrimination, anxiety, self-harm, and more. I want every client to feel like they are a key part of their healing journey because they are.

If you're looking to "talk to someone," let's talk. Life stressors, relationship stress, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, or new challenges can be overwhelming. You don't have to do it alone. I offer a warm, accepting, and judgment-free environment where you can explore, grow, and find resolution. Therapy tends to be Choose Your Own Adventure rather than One Size Fits All. Our first few sessions will be all about getting to know you and your needs. We will work together to build a treatment plan and identify strategies that fit you.

I have a background working with clients with substance use disorders and those carrying trauma from their past. Sometimes the brain can become stuck in survival mode because it is doing what it thinks is best for you. I believe that by having a safe place to compassionately explore the things we keep inside, it can open up the doorway to healing and allow the brain to shift from a state of survival to one of thriving. I am a neurodivergent therapist who loves working with neurodivergent clients to support them in identifying what works for them to be their most functional and happy self.

Emotional and behavioral challenges in childhood and adolescence affects the child and rest of the family unit as well. Caregivers often find themselves heartbroken while they watch their child struggle through issues they wish they could take away, and if the child is acting out behaviorally, it is common for caregivers to even feel hurt and confused. I offer therapy services for children ages 3 and up, as well as adults and families for the diagnosis and treatment of emotional, relational, and behavioral concerns, as well as offer support services and psychoeducation to their caregivers and other family members.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
