Welcome. I'm glad you're here. I realize that asking for help can sometimes be a difficult and intimidating experience, which is why I work to create a safe space where you and I can work collaboratively to explore your concerns and help you move forward. Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or sad? Do you need help in setting healthy boundaries or working through past traumas and experiences? Do you just feel "stuck" or like you have lost the joy in your life? I enjoy helping adults and adolescents process thoughts and life experiences to gain insight, make positive life changes, and improve mood.

I’m from southern West Virginia and care deeply about serving Appalachian communities, while also welcoming clients from all backgrounds. My goal is to help people better understand themselves, build effective tools, and create meaningful, lasting change.

My ideal client is someone who knows they want something in their life to feel different, even if they can’t fully put it into words yet. They may be navigating anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship struggles, or significant life changes that have left them feeling disconnected, emotionally worn down, or uncertain about their next step. They are looking for a supportive, compassionate space where they can pause, process, and feel truly understood. Through therapy, they hope to gain clarity, strengthen their sense of self, create more balance in their lives, and reconnect with the strength and healing already within them.

Hello! I’m Kat, and I believe therapy should be a space where you feel truly seen, heard, and valued. My practice is built on creating a safe, inclusive, and affirming environment for every client. Much of my work is with adults and adolescents navigating life stress, relationship struggles, and the lasting effects of family dynamics. I also support clients facing attention concerns, as well as those seeking clarity about how to change deeply rooted patterns that no longer serve them.

One of my favorite quotes is, “Be gentle with yourself; you’re doing the best you can.” I believe showing ourselves and others a little grace can go a long way. Challenges and struggles in life, however, can make that difficult at times. This is where therapy can be an excellent resource for helping you navigate your journey. My goal as a therapist is to meet you, with grace, and help you find your way to where you want to be. I seek to provide a safe and inclusive space using a person-centered approach assisting you to identify realistic, achievable goals.

I’m a therapist who believes healing begins with feeling understood. Rather than focusing on “fixing”. For over a decade, I have worked alongside individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and major life transitions. Being a mom of 2 energetic boys has taught me a lot about patience, resilience and meeting people exactly where they are. I see every day how big feelings show up in real life, through stress, change, joy, frustration and growth. That perspective shapes the way I show up as a therapist; with flexibility, empathy, and deep respect for how complex and demanding real life can be.

The longest journey begins with a single step and I am grateful to walk that path with you. It can be frightening and intimidating to begin the process of therapy; however, that experience can help you to make the changes that lead to a happier and more fulfilled life. Through a collaborative and safe relationship I establish with my clients, progress and change is made. Areas of practice include mood disorders, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, men's concerns, Autism, and ADHD and cognitive functioning (including testing services). I also enjoy working with clients from adolescents to seniors.

Living in fight, flight, or freeze? Are you spiraling, experiencing decision paralysis, self-sabotaging, shutting down, dopamine seeking, or adrenaline dumping? Perhaps escapism or feeling different has left you feeling disconnected. Yet, rejection sensitivity, demand avoidance, or feeling others aren't there enough keep you from living the life you deserve. If so, you may be living in survival. Through co-regulation, where I see your strengths, and offer a judgment-free, supportive milieu, I strive to help those experiencing insecure attachment from childhood and relational trauma truly thrive, not survive.

Therapy can be intimidating. It’s a vulnerable process to sit across from a stranger and unpack your life. That’s why I don’t show up as a "blank slate", I show up as someone who values authenticity, kindness, humor, and radical honesty. Whether you’re 14 or 40, I specialize in helping you develop tools to cope with the weight of depression, the hum of anxiety, mood irregularities, and life’s challenges.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
