I offer an abuse/trauma-informed approach to help individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, relationships, parenting, grief/loss, trauma, & healing from various forms of abuse & emotional/spiritual trauma.
Seasons of stress & overwhelm can feel disorienting & exhausting. Could they be affecting you more than you thought? Are you struggling from spiritual or emotional abuse, church hurt & harm, or seasons of stress & over-functioning? Trauma-informed therapy provides a supportive process for undoing the harm caused by past events. Together, we can work through root causes while nurturing a growth process to develop who you are and how you show up in the world. What you're going through now and what you've been through in the past doesn't need to be what defines how you move forward.

I have experience working with young adults, adults, couples, groups, trauma survivors, depression, anxiety, shame, and boundaries.
I am an LPC Associate who believes in trusting the process of moment-by-moment, daily transformation. In a safe environment and relaxed body, we can explore emotions understand defenses, and notice the response in our bodies so that we can grow and heal. I believe in human resilience and seek to provide the resources, support, and courage to move through what life dishes out. I find healthy ways to integrate challenging experiences into our daily lives. I help widen the space between stimulus and response (Viktor Frankl), empowering people to choose the response that will enable them to be their best versions.

You keep trying, but nothing changes. You have this underlying anger and a short fuse. You put on a happy face, portray a perfect life, yet others have no idea that you really feel unworthy and inferior. The ways you are coping with these feelings still leave you empty and are now creating more problems. You are on the verge of losing control of everything. No one knows the hurt and trauma of your past. You were taught to "buck up" and deal with it. If you did talk about it, you would be rejected and left feeling shame again. You feel like there is no hope and this is your last chance.

Throughout my life, I’ve had many experiences that contributed to my love of counseling and my role as a therapist, they have led to a passionate belief that everyone’s story is important and giving a voice to those stories is invaluable. I began my career as a teacher in the U.S. and abroad, and have over 15 years of experience in international non-profit work. I grew to love hearing other’s stories and saw the healing power of true relationships. I eventually returned to school to become a counselor and turned my passion into a path for healing, and I consider it an honor to do the work I do.

Our trauma is not merely an event; it's a deeply felt wound narrating stories of harm, neglect, and betrayal, deeply embedded in the fabric of our being. It interrupts our narrative, demanding to be acknowledged and engaged with. I believe sharing our story and mourning our wounds serves to both honor and restore dignity to the parts of ourselves that have faced shame and harm. My passion lies in assisting clients by helping them tell their stories and gently uncovering the pain, thereby revealing paths to healing and growth, leading to thriving life patterns, enriching relationships, and building a resilient, secure sense of self

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
