I have a private practice in Houston Heights. My doctoral training was completed at the University of Houston, Loma Linda VA in California, and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. I see people with a variety challenges, but substance use issues, anxiety, and depression are my areas of specialization. My approach to therapy stems from acceptance and mindfulness strategies, meaning I help people identify who and what is most important to them and then to move in a positive way in those directions, despite the unpleasant feelings that often keep us stuck.

Are you feeling like life could be more fulfilling, but fear, worry, and sadness seem to be holding you back? You've been on a journey, trying to find peace and happiness independently, and you've carried the weight of your emotions in silence for far too long. You're an empathetic person, deeply connected to your relationships, but sometimes, the emotional toll can feel overwhelming. You've considered seeking professional help, but doubts have held you back. Will your therapist truly understand your unique experiences, your culture, your background, and your upbringing?

Anxiety addiction, and adjustment disorders are quite common.
Hi. I am Camilla Jackson. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist which simply means I have a unique way of looking at your situation. I see individuals, couples, and families and I believe we are all a product of our family - both where we grew up and our family today. My counseling style is relaxed but very direct. I prefer for clients to come to counseling weary of how things are going and prepared to begin changing their lives. I practice solution-oriented counseling, CBT, and strength-based counseling techniques which means that we work hard to ensure you come to as few sessions as possible.

With the use of Collaborative Theory, I move as a respectful co-pilot, assisting you towards clarity of mind, body, and spirit. I work primarily with adolescents and adults, with a focus on helping each individual shift through issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, other stressors, and mood concerns. If you are suffering, the chances are good that parts of you have stopped or slowed in their natural development. The honest relationship forged in psychotherapy can bring about the insight and clarity needed to begin to grow again.

My clients often choose to work on increasing their strategies for managing stress, depression, or anxiety, or they might learn new coping skills.
While none of us are immune to challenges, learning to stay present makes a significant difference. It's been my honor, throughout my 27 years of practice, to accompany my clients on the path to healing and growth. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I've supported individuals, couples, and families facing various challenges, including living with chronic health conditions, managing depression and anxiety, improving communication, and cultivating resilience in the face of traumatic experiences.

Sometimes life gets in the way of truly living. You may be feeling stuck or overwhelmed. Maybe you are more anxious than usual, noticing the impact of trauma in your life, or finding it especially difficult to navigate important relationships. Whatever has led you to this place, you are not alone. These experiences make it difficult to live the life you want and have meaningful relationships. My role is to help you move away from avoiding difficult experiences and move toward a more open and accepting perspective toward yourself and your experiences so that you can create the vital life you want.

By untangling thoughts and behaviors (and what feeds them), I help clients confront and rise above their fears to live in line with their dreams.
I am proud to work with clients whose brains are different, whose ways of looking at and interacting with the world are unique, and who are looking to untangle their authentic selves from the mask society pushed them to wear, learn to love/accept themselves as they are, and use this radical self-love to make the changes they want to see. Creative, brave, bold, spicy, innovative, intelligent, justice-oriented - these are the traits that were already there inside those wonderful human beings I serve, and one way or another the world tried to bury them. But the world didn't know they were seeds.

I offer a compassionate, nonjudgmental space for adults experiencing anxiety and depressive disorders related to unsuccessful relationships. In our work together, you'll learn practical skills to rediscover your identity and purpose. My approach to therapy is based on mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which allows for deeper healing than traditional talk therapy. Clients come to me looking for someone who “gets” what happened to them on a deeper level because therapy should be a place where you feel safe and validated.

I have experience working with people on a wide range of issues: anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, eating disorders / body image issues, postpartum depression, divorce, and just feeling "stuck".
I love supporting people in getting as close to the truth of their situation as possible, because I believe the truth is where you will find your happiness. This has been true for me in my own life. I know very personally what a difference it makes to be understood in a deep and consistent way.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
