I strive to offer compassionate and practical support helping clients find their way through a variety of stressors, including: pre-parenting stress, reproductive decisions, unexpected pregnancy, teen pregnancy/parenthood, support plans for birth and postpartum, birth story processing, support after birth trauma, overwhelming emotions, etc.
I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) with a specialization in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C). I have a heart for supporting people through their reproductive years while they navigate the ups and downs of pre-parenting, pregnancy, postpartum, and parenthood. My approach is to support clients holistically using an integrated therapeutic approach. I draw from elements of psychodynamic (narrative), acceptance commitment (ACT), cognitive behavioral (CBT), and mindfulness therapies in to ensure the whole person’s needs are met.

Are you a stressed mama?! An anxious teen? Parent of an angry adolescent? A successful, independent woman struggling with relationships? Sometimes we become overwhelmed by life. Whether you are a parent, child, sibling, spouse, or partner, navigating stresses and relationships are an essential part of everyday life. Sometimes, we become so caught up in our own personal bubble that we need an outside perspective to help us see what is happening in order to gain clarity or bring about change within our lives.

Bio video on my website! I served 8 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. before finding my new calling and love; therapy. We are not meant to do life alone, and times of struggle can be painful illustrations of that. By the time you decide to seek out therapy, you have likely been white-knuckling the steering wheel of life for some time, adapting in the only ways you know. When you walk into my office, please know the courage it took to get here is not lost on me.

Are you a person who finds yourself caring deeply for others while you struggle to care about yourself? Maybe you feel like an imposter and that there is no way that you can measure up to those around you. Do you avoid making decisions or taking risks because you know that you’ll fail anyway? You think even when something is a success that it is only a matter of time before it all falls apart. Do you want to feel that you are valued and have worth that allows you to establish the life that you imagine for yourself? Do you struggle to believe that it’s possible to feel good about yourself?

Are you looking for a place to help you explore healing? Have you gotten to a place that you feel like you may need guidance to help you keep going? Are you burdened with depression, anxiety, grief, low-self esteem, or even life transitions? Most of all, have you come to understand that you are HUMAN and you just need a person that you can lean on for help?

Bio video on my website! In 2011, I graduated from seminary & worked as a youth pastor for 5 years. From the vantage point of a pastor, I saw the need for good, quality, professional therapy in people's lives. When you walk through the therapist’s door, you expect to be given the tools you need to accomplish change. Good therapy is more than “What do you want to talk about today?” You need to work with a therapist who has the right tools to dig deep and do some heavy lifting, and that is what I offer.

Video on website! When you come to therapy, you want something substantially different. You don’t want to pay for a sounding board; you want a therapist with the experience & training to dive deep into your story & bring you change. That is what I do. I use an experiential style of therapy that works well with people struggling with issues including addiction, affair recovery, trauma, abuse recovery, anxiety, attachment, spiritual growth, relational problems, and teens & their parents. I work hard to help people heal from painful wounds & problematic behaviors.

Do you have a child who is struggling academically, emotionally or socially? When children are struggling with emotional difficulties it can be hard to watch and even more difficult to know how to help. It might be best to have them talk to someone with experience in getting children to communicate about what's affecting them. I am an experienced child therapist utilizing play to assist children and their families in being able to process and heal through traumatic or difficult situations.

Bio video on my website...When you pay for therapy, you're expecting something of tangible value. All too often what you get instead is a nice person on a couch and little else. That’s not me. With high energy and humor, I help people recover from sexual addiction; I help couples lost in conflict and hopelessness; and I help parents with teens and young adults. I work with sexual abuse, attachment wounds, and traumas/PTSD of all kinds. I am a Christian, and I approach therapy from a clinical perspective. We can integrate your faith as much as you feel comfortable, or not at all.

“Owning our story & loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we will ever do.” This quote by Brene Brown sums up my deepest belief about the therapy process. I love to provide a safe & authentic environment in which I can walk alongside you as you learn to do both– own your story & through it, love yourself. My approach is warm, direct, & involves some humor (because laughing usually helps!)

Do you feel alienated, alone, & misunderstood? Caught in a cycle of escape, control, and avoidance? You judge yourself at every turn, can’t meet your own expectations and don't seem to trust yourself? You feel like you're not good enough and scared you can't feel anything but alone. You sacrifice parts of yourself to feel worthy of love. Overwhelmed by shame and guilt about who you are and what you’ve experienced. You try to find peace by avoiding life. Control has become the problem, not the solution. I'm here to help you discover a new way to feel, heal & deal. You no longer need to feel alone in the face of overwhelming emotions.

Each of us experience difficulties and struggles in life that can leave us feeling worried, overwhelmed, and exhausted. When faced with these challenges, it can be difficult to understand and process our thoughts and emotions. It is my honor as a counselor to partner with clients in creating a safe space where we can work together to explore challenges, improve coping, strengthen relationships, and find meaning in life.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
