I strive to always bring my own sense of authenticity to every session as I believe that therapy at its core is successful due to the relationship between clinician and client. As your therapist I will promise to be consistently present, challenge you gently but firmly when you need me to, and to empathetically and truly care about what you have to say. I have fourteen years of experience in the mental health field addressing issues ranging from depression and anxiety to substance use to feelings around gender and sexuality. I work with individuals and families but also have a strong passion working with couples and relationships.

I am a clinical psychologist licensed in Washington state, and I work with both individuals and couples confronting a range of relational, behavioral, and psychological concerns. I approach therapy from an integrative model, focusing on tailoring treatment to each unique situation and history; but I tend to put the most emphasis on lifelong patterns of attachment, emotional experience, unconscious processes, and connection with self, others, and the world. First and foremost, therapy a working relationship, and so attending to the quality of that relationship is always a primary focus with anyone I work with.

Are you overwhelmed by life’s struggles, trauma, relationship or attachment issues? Maybe you have been wondering about autism or ADHD as a something you are experiencing? Do you have questions about gender or sexuality, and a general need to examine where you exist within an increasingly challenging society and how you are impacted by it? These are the issues that I enjoy navigating with my clients as we find a new, securely attached, unmasked, and comfortable way of living freely. If you are hurting and do not know where to start I can help. If you feel that you are at the end, we can find a new beginning.

I recognize the importance of the therapeutic relationship and understand it can be difficult to initiate therapy.
I find people are far more capable and resilient than they realize. My approach to therapy is collaborative, eclectic and person-centered. Whether the challenge stems from anxiety, depression, trauma or conflict within your relationship, skills can be learned to navigate your life circumstance. Relationships make up the core of who we are as human beings and effort is needed to learn skills to communicate, have healthier conflict resolution or restructure a relationship to fit our needs (with others and self).

Hi there, I’m Ali! I am a second-generation Cambodian American who comes from a community of Muslim refugees. It goes without saying that I am intimately familiar with generational trauma, and it’s the reason I entered the field of mental health. Through my own journey of self-discovery, I’ve come to realize the importance of healing our traumas and its impact on our overall well-being. I am passionate about working with individuals and couples who come from historically marginalized communities. I believe that with the right tools and support everybody has the capability to heal and grow.

We all find ourselves in circumstances at one time or another that call for adjusting to change or making decisions, whether it's charting a path through grief and loss, developmental transitions, job loss, recovering from trauma or the challenges of parenting. Therapy can be helpful in sorting through confusing thoughts and feelings, gaining insight, establishing a course of action amongst different choices, and building confidence through experiencing a deeper understanding of yourself, all in the context of a caring relationship.

Many clients come to therapy for multiple reasons; most clients are seeking when the "anxiety" is too much to endure. I provide therapy for individuals-(children, adolescents and adults), couples, and facilitate process groups. I also am a multicultural educator. I help individuals cope with mechanisms that will help find ways to make different choices and re-invent ourselves; so we then become the architect, the planner and the builder of our lives, throughout our lives. I provide workshops and presentations that deal with undoing multiple oppressions in both queer and communities of color.

With over 50 years experience, I have successfully dealt with many treatment issues. The basic ingredient in any therapy is the quality of the relationship. I am an actively involved therapist, usually seeking an in-depth resolution of problem issues. Emotional freedom results from an understanding, respect, and acceptance of our individuality.

Are you stuck in repetitive, unhelpful relationship patterns, impacting various aspects of your life? Together we can work to uncover the roots of what is happening. These behaviors often stem from a desire for safety and connection but hinder growth. Yet, everyone can evolve and thrive. Through collaboration, we can work together to understand the causes, paving the way for healthier relationships and a more satisfying life. I offer a safe space for exploration, whether in-person or through telehealth sessions, with evidence-based tools and approaches such as EMDR, EFT, and relational psychodynamic therapy.

Adult Mental Health Counseling, Adolescent, Youth Counseling, Geriatric Counseling, Family and Couples.
My approach to Mental Health Counseling is to view the client as expert in their own life. I do not play the role of expert in my client's lives. I do, however act as a guide, advocate, educator, and support person. What I will do is attempt to see your issues from your perspective and your view of the world. I work within the framework of Person-Centered Therapy, which focuses on the client being the expert, Existential Therapy, which focuses on behavior and looks at how the client thinks, feels, and behaves and the impact they have on others.

I work with teens, couples, and adults. I believe that psychotherapy offers unique possibilities for healing and growth. The first step in therapy is to understand your needs and develop an approach and plan that will help achieve your goals. I will listen carefully and thoughtfully to you. This opens up new ways of approaching problems. Working together lightens the load.

I have over twenty years of experience working with adults of all ages, both individuals and couples.
Just about everyone experiences difficult times in their lives. Sometimes these are temporary, such as during or after a life transition, and sometimes these are more chronic where we become stuck. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, work or school concerns, or something else, I imagine you are seeking help because you are not feeling the way you wish to feel. I also imagine that you have hope that it can get better.

I provide counseling to people experiencing trauma, anxiety and depression, gay men, people living with HIV/AIDS, queer people, and couples.
I help clients to feel like they are in the driver's seat of their lives by facilitating clarity amidst the chaos of distractions that impede engagement in their present experience. I believe the fundamental vehicle of change is the relationship between the counselor and the client. For me, therapy is a collaborative approach in which the therapist helps clients confront issues by staying present and exploring their narratives and relationships through different dynamics and perspectives.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
