We all find ourselves in circumstances at one time or another that call for adjusting to change or making decisions, whether it's charting a path through grief and loss, developmental transitions, job loss, recovering from trauma or the challenges of parenting. Therapy can be helpful in sorting through confusing thoughts and feelings, gaining insight, establishing a course of action amongst different choices, and building confidence through experiencing a deeper understanding of yourself, all in the context of a caring relationship.

As a therapist and folk medicine apprentice, I'm devoted to supporting others in reconnecting with the wisdom of their minds, bodies, spirits, and innate sense of wholeness. I have training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic therapies, yoga, and folk medicine, and weave spiritual practices into work with others to hold grounding, transformative space. My work invites others into presence, inner listening, and communion with the many human and spiritual parts of themselves. I strive to create a container of warmth and trust in every session where each client feels safe to be their honest and authentic self.

Trauma leaves us feeling broken, ashamed, and disconnected from our true selves. You may be fed up with feeling triggered in everyday situations, isolated from friends who can’t understand, or guilt over what happened to you. It may even feel like this will last forever. Either way, you’re ready for some relief and actual change. You’re ready to enjoy deep relationships without your past getting in the way. You’re ready to rediscover your true self. Most of all, you’re ready to love yourself again & to face your future with a sense of hope.

Hi there, I’m Ali! I am a second-generation Cambodian American who comes from a community of Muslim refugees. It goes without saying that I am intimately familiar with generational trauma, and it’s the reason I entered the field of mental health. Through my own journey of self-discovery, I’ve come to realize the importance of healing our traumas and its impact on our overall well-being. I am passionate about working with individuals and couples who come from historically marginalized communities. I believe that with the right tools and support everybody has the capability to heal and grow.

In my experience, things can start getting better fast, long before the problem is solved. Rated in the top 1% of psychotherapists on LinkedIn, I'm warm, practical, experienced & hard-working. I'll help you tackle problems related to trauma, difficult childhoods, bad bosses, relationships of all sorts that just don't work well, and the distress of having repeated disappointments in life. I'm interested in helping make real change, and not just developing interesting insights (although they can be useful too.)

Whether your goal is to achieve greater self awareness, build stronger personal relationships, heal past wounds, or just feel better about yourself, a therapeutic relationship can help meet that goal. I invite you to enter an environment where we can explore the subconscious mind and your own inner landscape, understanding that we also live in a co-created world where many levels intersect. We can look at both the outside influences, such marginalized status in society, that may have shaped your world view, and look within to how these stories have taken hold.

From military leaders, to executives, to athletes, and everyone in between...I work with high performing people who can also get stuck in the hard places of life. Are revolving cycles of misunderstanding and conflict leaving you feeling stuck in your relationship? Does a painful past steal your joy in the present or hope for the future? Is stress or burnout preventing you from being your best at work or at home? Are you moving through life at breakneck speed, but lacking a clear sense of direction? Disruptions like these disconnect us from what matters most and negatively impact how we think, feel, and move in the world.

I help people struggling with attachment difficulties and unprocessed pain find relief and live more effective, connected, and fulfilling lives. The people that I treat in my practice show up because something in their lives is no longer working (they may not even know what exactly that something is yet), and they are tired of suffering and are ready to try something different. They are committed to exploring their pain and ready to take action to make their lives better. Together, we will uncover the underlying attachment patterns, beliefs, past experiences and emotions that keep you stuck, and help you find ways to move forward.

Therapy is a powerful space to explore and heal from experiences of harm and oppression and to move toward a radically authentic and fulfilling life. I'm a good therapist fit for folks who are seeking to heal from trauma (personal and societal), feel less burdened by stress and anxiety, release pressures of perfectionism and overthinking, explore intersectional identity and impacts of experiencing privilege and oppression, grow skills for healthy relationships, get out of their head and into their body, build a life aligned with their values, sustain action for social change, and reconnect to joy and pleasure.

I believe that often the emotional pain found in our lives can be traced back to relationships and experiences in our past. Too often we are not given the space to acknowledge these hurts and are expected to carry the weight of it alone. I work with individuals across a range of concerns such as anxiety, grief and loss, symptoms of trauma, early childhood traumatic abuse and harm, life transitions, religious harm, family of origin issues; along with those who would like to improve the relationships in their life. I am particularly passionate in exploring the role that early attachment relationships have in how we navigate the world.

You've overcome a lot already in your life. The people in your life consider you successful and admire how far you've come. You are a "pattern changer" in your family of origin. But you are ready for even more ease and joy. My clients are smart and successful and want to integrate deeper calm, clarity and courage into their lives. They have a lot of insight, but still struggle with making changes or feeling as good as they can. Let me help you to remember and accentuate your inner wisdom and resilience.

You may have heard a saying that depression arises from living in the past, anxiety from living in the future, and the antidote for both is living in the present. Many of us push away the present moment with distractions, automatic behaviors, over-committing, substance use, and screen-time. Other times when we slow down enough to be present, we might not like the person we find ourselves to be - out of alignment with our environment or acting in ways that don’t match our values. However you are trying to get "un-stuck" or find a more authentic self, it helps to have a guide who can help you find footing.

In my therapeutic practice I seek to motivate clients to build the brain they want rather than feeling stuck with the one they have. By harnessing the power of cognitive restructuring, we can excel at tackling complex issues like dealing with stress, managing emotions, changing habits, controlling impulses and navigating complicated relationships in the same way that we would get better at any other skill; through dedication and practice! I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy techniques and skills to help clients set and achieve their own therapeutic goals and try to instil a sense of hopefulness and resolve in every session.

Sometimes life happens and it doesn't feel great. Symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, or grief might take over, and what used to feel okay begins to feel out of control. If you feel overwhelmed, confused, alone, or isolated in your thoughts or feelings, seeking counseling is a courageous and kind step towards groundedness, relief, and ultimately healing.

How can I find a therapist in 98122?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
