I have specialized in two areas. The first involves the treatment of loss, grief, trauma and the anxiety disorders that sometimes accompany these events. With a new perspective, most people find it easier to incorporate new coping skills. This can help you work through your feelings and losses. The second area of specialty is women's health, especially during pregnancy and the postpartum period of life. Having a newborn and the adjustment to mothering brings on many challenges. I work with women to help them cope with the changes to themselves, their bodies as well as their relationships.
I have over 25 years experience. My theoretical approaches are predominantly psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral. I draw from the most effective elements of different theoretical orientation’s that lead to change. Each person has their own history and their own difficulties, so this enables me to tailor a treatment approach that is unique to you.
I find that people come to therapy when they are suffering. In my experience, it is useful to help people articulate what the problem is out loud. Many people ruminate. Talking with someone you can trust, who will not judge your feelings or your past is tremendously relieving for most people. This is where the healing starts.
