A main focus of my therapy is joining clients in what they are going through. Therapeutic workbooks are great, but there is a big difference between opening up to a workbook versus opening up to a human being. When we open up to another person we make ourselves vulnerable. That is when true growth begins. I set out to try and help people deal with the core issues, as well as enhance their core strengths. When there is recovery in the core, the symptoms can be dealt with. Our problematic situations and behaviors are but a symptom. Website: jeremyharveymft.com

I help new Moms and Dads as they adjust into parenthood. I also help bereaved parents deal with the loss of their babies. This includes hopeful parents who are struggling with infertility, pregnancy loss, as well as parents who are feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. I work with Moms who are having trouble adjusting to incredible exhaustion and new demands of motherhood, intense mood swings and irritability, and a scary isolation you can feel when you are caring for a newborn baby. I work with heartbroken parents who have lost their precious babies - either during pregnancy or after birth.

When DIVORCE feels like the answer, and that thought breaks your heart...Overwhelmed by shock, anger, disappointment, regret and deep sorrow...Frozen by confusion, fear, humiliation and hopelessness...Exhausted by the constant flooding of these feelings which lead to bitter battles, and sleepless nights. Trying to engage in meaningful conversation is frustrating and enraging. An experienced, understanding counselor can help calm your emotional tidal waves, stop intrusive, hurtful thoughts, and help you find your way again. Even if the cause is an affair, an addiction, a bitter betrayal, a stressful life or difficult in-laws.

Sometimes, life breaks your heart, and you don’t recognize yourself anymore. You’re suddenly feeling lost, frustrated, dissatisfied, and tired of feeling unnoticed or unappreciated. You try your best to not crumble by holding it together, but the pressure to be “strong” or “perfect” prevents you from living life authentically and peacefully. With so much falling on your shoulders lately, you’re probably needing time/space to deal with your stress and sort through the disappointments and loss to find a way back to yourself. You want to feel better, you’re ready to talk, and you’re eager to set yourself free from what ails you.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
