Evalie Horner is especially passionate about supporting artists and writers, trauma survivors, and the LGBTQ community. During the late 1990s, Evalie helped to pioneer C.U. Boulder's LGBTQ studies certificate, one of the country's first programs of this kind. She has several publications in the field of LGBTQ studies, including a book chapter on counseling bisexual clients. Evalie raises her twin girls, Emma and Ryan. Her mother was an astologer who trained her and she has recently enjoyed reading and incorporating client astrological charts when asked. She is also an expert in the unique challenges of LGBTQ plus divorce.

I practice as a contemplative psychotherapist. I believe in the basic goodness of all people and join together with clients to reconnect that basic goodness back into their conscious life. I assist individuals, couples, families, and groups in finding their next steps. I know that transformation is possible and healing can take place even under the most dire situations, feelings, and ways we are conditioned to think and act. I am slow paced and create an atmosphere of warmth, trust, and safety. I am available mornings, late afternoon and early evenings Monday through Thursday.

Clients come to my practice to find alternatives to patterns and behaviors that are no longer working, to heal from traumas, explore identity, navigate transitions, and get unstuck. I work with teens, young adults, and adults who want real change, more support, effective boundaries, and honest connection in their lives using a social justice counseling framework that is client-defined, trauma-informed and strengths-based.

I specialize in working with adults and teenagers who have suffered trauma, couples counseling, and I work with men around masculine integration and "Nice Guy" recovery. My ideal client desires deep transformation to feel more free, energized, and they seek to go beyond the habitual patterns that keep them feeling stuck in life. My work with couples and families is based in healing deep attachment wounds from early childhood and previous relationships so individuals can find deeper intimacy, trust, and connection with the people that matter most in their lives. I utilize EMDR trauma therapy, PACT couple therapy, and mindfulness.

What happens when we cannot show the most vulnerable and truthful parts of ourselves? Suffering. Fear. Frustration. Incongruence. We live in a world where a right way of being is imposed. Often that entails communicating, dressing, and moving in one particular way. In other words, we are asked to act in ways that align the with dominant heterosexual, cis-gender, White, English-speaking culture.

I work best with clients who are not only wanting to resolve their issues, but who also have some abiding interest in inner exploration and self-discovery. In my experience, if we only approach therapy with the mindset of needing to fix, therapy can become heavy and mechanical. Even if we are working with difficult subjects, therapy is meant to engage a part of us that loves to know the truth about ourselves. When this happens, it is as though a flame lights up in us, which fuels our passion for self-inquiry. Then, therapy becomes more like an adventure, which can be very enjoyable, meaningful, and expansive.

Sincere Path Counseling grew out of my desire to help folks heal, become more fully themselves & offer their unique goodness to the world. My approach, cultivated over the course of 20 years, is founded on genuine relationship, mindfulness, & compassion. I was given an incredible opportunity in the early 1970's to work in the field of sexual health and psychotherapy. This is all truly my lifetime passion and commitment. After 40+ years of practice, I am so fortunate that I remain always fascinated & passionate by psychology, people & issues uniquely revolving around sexual health. I love movement & supporting my clients' internal power to change. I work with couples as well as individuals, specializing in intimacy & communication skills. I specialize in working with older couples and individuals.
