Finding peace in a complex world often involves seeking answers to sensitive and sometimes distressing questions. Unexpected loss, childhood traumas, and relationship distress lead to distress and disconnection from others. My therapeutic work is attachment-based and trauma informed to foster kindness, compassion, and respect for the whole person (mind, body, and spirit). I work with individuals, teens, and couples. I have advanced training in infidelity and affair recovery for couples, betrayal trauma, and partner recovery, as well as the use of EMDR with complex trauma. Additionally I am a Level 3 Gottman Method Therapist.

I specialize in the areas of trauma and abuse, sexual abuse, sexuality, depression and anxiety and couples counseling.
I believe that individuals are uniquely designed with an inner connectedness spanning our cognitive, physical, emotional and spiritual experiences. Because of this design, health and healing are best found through strengthening each of these interconnected elements of our being. My therapeutic approaches are based upon this belief. With couples, I use a hope-focused (strengths based) approach, while examining the family dynamics, or "systems" that are in effect. When working with individuals, I use Cognitive Behavioral approach (CBT), client-centered and systems approaches to holistically facilitate growth, healing and increased self-awareness.

I enjoy working with people of all ages and consider my specialties to include trauma treatment, EMDR, school issues, Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), family issues, highly conflictual relationships of any type, self-injury, suicide ideation and attempts, "oppositional defiant" behaviors, and "stuck" living patterns, to name just a few.
I believe that the most important factor of success in therapy is the authentic relationship. I have a passion for learning about each client's talents and strengths and using those to increase their life satisfaction. I believe that all people have a desire to live the best lives they can live, and at times need support in identifying and eliminating the barriers that prevent them from doing so. I believe that trauma, whether from watching the daily news or experiencing combat in war, is at the root of many of these barriers.

Trauma can play a part in this, as a trained EMDR therapist, I have found that trauma is one of the main culprits in keeping us from living a life that is fulfilling and whole.
There are times in our lives when we feel stuck. We may not always know why, but we know something feels off, you may find yourself in a place where things aren’t making sense or have left you feeling confused and disappointed. Having a trusted provider to help you work through the emotions that are confusing and undesired is important. Whether your life has been interrupted by unexpected circumstances, broken relationships, life transitions, trauma, or mental health challenges, I am committed to working with you to help you achieve wholeness and healing through the use of evidence-based strategies.

As an experienced grief and trauma counselor, I enjoy working with both children and adults.
Life sometimes leaves us with deep wounds which, left unresolved, can later appear in the form of depression, relationship struggles, anxiety, and anger. Putting on a mask for the outside world when you are falling apart inside is exhausting. With a non-judgmental lens, I see you as a person; not your past, not your actions, not your diagnoses. Are you ready to finally shed the mask and live your best life?

My experience includes training in the Multidimensional Partner Trauma Model, Certified Clinical Partner Specialist, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) trained therapist which is designed to help you integrate the traumatic experience in a manner that allows you to recall the memory while remaining calm and at ease.
My practice specializes in partners of an emotional or sexual betrayal which may lead to infidelity. If you have recently discovered your husband's excessive pornography use, you may be experiencing trauma from post traumatic stress, anxiety, sadness, or even anger that you doubt you can ever trust him again. Experiencing betrayal in your marriage is often a devastating, overwhelming and lonely experience. As the betrayed spouse, you may be experiencing an identity crisis leaving you doubting your marriage and yourself.

Hi! :) I frequently work with women who are trying to leave or have recently left an abusive relationship. You might notice you want to find independence and discover your identity outside of the relationship and are still impacted by the pain you went through. We will explore attachment wounds, trauma(s), and/or other emotional burdens that need attention and relief. We will work together to help you find ways to move forward with your life in a new, healthier direction. I also work with folks who have unresolved childhood trauma and notice symptoms of discomfort that they are ready to leave in the past.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
