Certified Grief Informed Professional I am trained in Grief Counseling and it is one of my specialties. Loss of all kinds happens to all of us and how we move and heal through the process of grief can affect our lives and our relationships. We truly do have a "Duty to Grieve" and many times need someone to walk with us down that path of learning to live in a different way. Professional help can be a huge assistance during this time. Please consider scheduling a session to see if this will be beneficial to you during this difficult and trying time. It would be my honor to walk with you on this path of healing.

Grief and loss due to a death or the end of a significant relationship can seem unbearable.
I offer individual, couples, and family counseling. Are you wondering how counseling can help you? Sometimes life throws us a curve ball and a specific issue comes up. You and I would consider short term, solution-focused counseling as a strategy to work on your concern. Is there a relationship in your life that feels strained? Our counseling process would likely include working to improve communication patterns and re-discovering the needs of all concerned. For more chronic issues like depression and anxiety, developing coping skills and improving self-talk and self-image can create significant relief in your life.

My experience includes working with people experiencing depression, grief, marital challenges and parenting concerns.
As a society, we have grown distant from each other, alone in many phases of life. We experience life situations alone and repeat problematic patterns not knowing how to change or cope. As a psychotherapist I am spiritually based and believe the family is the foundation which supports the healthy development of it's member's. As a clinician I seek to develop therapeutic relationships which prepare the person for change which positively impact their life. For over 20 years I have worked with families, couples, individuals and children in a wide variety of psychological, emotional, behavioral and cognitive challenges.

Relationships can be complicated! All of us need help navigating the rough waters of our relationships. Whether in marriage or parenting, with extended family, or friends and loved ones, we find ourselves hurt by the people we care about the most. And sometimes we hurt them back. That isn't who we really want to be, but we don't know another way. We're stuck in a cycle of anger and distancing. Conflict is inevitable. Thankfully, resolution of conflict is possible. We are created to have meaningful relationships and my aim in therapy is to help you learn how to have them.

There are so many surprises and experiences in the world to shape and grow us, some of which can be life-changing or hard to move past. It is easy to become voiceless, bottle things up, or notice that you completely have changed yourself to merely get by. Normalcy is often what everyone wants, but yet, to achieve it can be a constant battle with unending emotions. I have an innate drive and passion for supporting others and helping them reach their full potential as they navigate through transitions, adolescence, and other milestones in life, regardless of age group.

Relationships are hard. Only our closest loved ones, especially those we share a bed with, can stir up our most intense feelings of emotional pain, disappointment and shame. We often respond to these emotions with anger, withdraw, control or resistance which leads to conflict, emotional distance and the dreaded dead bedroom syndrome. Having disagreements in a relationship is expected. We all have our own ways of seeing, feeling and thinking about things including sex. The key to a healthy relationship is to be able to acknowledge the differences and communicate in a way that is genuine, supportive and understanding.

I have a passion to work with adults struggling with an addiction. Additionally, I find a strong connection in working with adolescents and helping them get through stages of their lives. Everyone struggles at times in their lives but getting through these challenges can largely depend on who is there with the person and I desire to be the person that walks through this journey with you.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
