Ever feel like no one understands you? Wish you could talk to someone without judgment or bias? Have something wrong but are not sure how to vocalize the issue? That is exactly what counseling is for. I offer you a setting that is safe to work through whatever issue you are struggling with, whether you have a specific goal or just need an outlet. My mission as a counselor is to support anyone that is struggling, by educating them, listening to them, or help by working with the family. Due to high demand at this time I am not accepting new clients.

When you are struggling, one of the most difficult things to do is ask for help. It takes courage, faith, and trust to reach out when life feels unmanageable or overwhelming. Yet taking that one step is often the very best thing you can do for yourself and those you love. I provide compassionate, competent counseling to teens and adults in individual, and family/group settings. I use individualized talk, play, and EMDR techniques to help clients set therapeutic goals and reach them.

Sometimes it can be easy to feel like there is something wrong with us. We doubt ourselves, our worth, and our abilities. The experiences we have in life can lead us to having these painful beliefs and emotions, which can bring about feelings of shame, misunderstanding or despair. When we are able to overcome the shame and self-doubt, our true selves are able to be discovered. I welcome the opportunity to get to know the real you and help you discover your value and worth.

Relationships are hard. Only our closest loved ones, especially those we share a bed with, can stir up our most intense feelings of emotional pain, disappointment and shame. We often respond to these emotions with anger, withdraw, control or resistance which leads to conflict, emotional distance and the dreaded dead bedroom syndrome. Having disagreements in a relationship is expected. We all have our own ways of seeing, feeling and thinking about things including sex. The key to a healthy relationship is to be able to acknowledge the differences and communicate in a way that is genuine, supportive and understanding.

I have a passion to work with adults struggling with an addiction. Additionally, I find a strong connection in working with adolescents and helping them get through stages of their lives. Everyone struggles at times in their lives but getting through these challenges can largely depend on who is there with the person and I desire to be the person that walks through this journey with you.

Have you ever had emotional pain, anger, trauma? Understandably. Life can be tough. Thanks to many smart people in my path, I have been trained to use assessments to target treatment, so that you can reach your goals. I have also been trained to do all this from a person-centered perspective. As such, I see therapy as a well-planned coaching session where we identify your goals, clearly define barriers toward reaching goals, and coming up with strategies for long-term success in achieving them. (Can you tell that I am also a veteran?) :). Let's see how we can work together to turn that frown upside down! ;).

Randall has experience working with chronic mental illnesses using a variety of treatment modalities based on the cognitive model. Randall has been trained and certified in CPT, TF-CBT and CBT. By using a cognitive approach, the individual can learn to identify the specific emotions, attitudes, and behaviors that get in the way of their daily living. Traumatic stress overwhelms our ability to cope and leaves us to feel unsafe, vulnerable and out of control. Randall uses a trauma-informed care approach to promote understanding of the impact of the trauma to help survivors rebuild control and empowerment in their lives.

How can I find a therapist in New Braunfels?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
