My goal is to establish quality relationships with my clients in order to resolve issues such as destructive anger, depression, trauma, anxiety, PTSD, and C-PTSD. I can help resolve relational issues between spouses, parents and children or extended family members. EMDR is a powerful tool to help breakthrough negative cognitions due to trauma.

I am a licensed professional counselor who teaches young adults how to gain control over their thoughts, build confidence and decrease feelings of shame and guilt. I am skilled and experienced in working with client's who are struggling with past or present trauma, want to improve their self-esteem, and gain control over their anxiety. Life does not have to feel like a constant struggle. However, for some, life can feel like an uphill battle. My goal as your therapist is to provide you with a space where you can begin to heal, learn to trust yourself again, and live with more confidence.

My academic background includes a doctorate in Educational Leadership, a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology and two undergraduate degrees - Psychology and Anthropology.

My goal is to help clients achieve success in their lives by providing tools for coping with their current situations, feelings, and behaviors while maintaining a safe, warm, accepting, and trustworthy environment. I use a variety of methods and techniques to meet the personalized needs of the individual client. My areas of interest include but are not limited to grief, trauma, and loss, stress, anxiety, depression, anger management, and communication issues.

It’s terrible to live this way. Your entire self-worth is dependent on external validation from others. Your partners constantly mistreat you, but you don’t feel like you deserve any better. “At least,” you tell yourself, “This negative attention is better than getting no attention at all.” You wish there was some way to regain control of your life and relationships, but you don’t know how. It feels hopeless, and you’re almost ready to give up.

Originally from Virginia and after moving to Texas, I taught school for 14 years in Houston ISD and at Presbyterian School in the museum district. With increasing desire to help students with emotional and social issues, I returned to the University of Houston--Clear Lake and earned my master's degree in Clinical Psychology. I completed my intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy at Menninger with Shari Manning, PhD and Karyn Hall, PhD. Starting in January of 2013, I worked as a practicum student and LPC-Intern at The DBT Center of Houston.

I am easy to talk to and a great listener. Whether I am counseling or in my personal life, people naturally feel comfortable opening up with me. I believe in counseling to help you build on and recognize your strengths. The more you open yourself up to counseling, the more you will benefit. My clients often ask me if I have ever heard of anyone else having similar feelings and difficulties that they are experiencing and I reassure them that they are not alone. Together, we will create and enhance ways of coping that will work for you.

My passion is working with children, adolescents, adults, and couples. My goal is to foster a safe environment for all my clients to explore feelings and emotions that have been creating distress. With younger children, I understand that it may be harder to communicate their feelings with words and play therapy can be used to more effectively explore their thoughts.
