Some of my favorites are Gottman, Narrative, and Collaborative theories of therapy.
Everyone has their own unique story and I will work to understand yours. I work with a variety of people including individuals, couples and families from a wide variety of professions, family situations, race, age and religious affiliations. Some of the issues I have experience and success working with are sexual dysfunction, infidelity, communication issues, trauma, and mental disorders. My approach looks at the entire person and the “system” in and surrounding them. I examine elements of people’s lives like their physical well-being, emotional coping and conflict resolution skills.

Well, sh-t’s hit the fan, big time. Maybe you’ve gotten lost in a world of online fantasies that seemed harmless … until they weren’t. Or you crossed the line with a coworker, or have been measuring your self-worth in Tinder swipes. Or perhaps you're the other half, totally blindsided, feeling like you've just crash-landed in the middle of an emotional earthquake. It’s a mess, right? Not just the sneaky stuff, but the whole hurricane it’s whipped up – your day-to-day, your peace of mind, your connection with each other. You’re both knee-deep in this chaos, and it’s anything but simple.

My approach is to empower clients with the tools they need to grow and create a life that is enjoyable and productive. I work with individuals who feel overwhelmed by depression, anxiety, deep loss, caretaker fatigue, and professional burnout. My belief is that people are largely defined by their past and present experiences. Both past and present experiences can cause psychological distress, anxiety, depression, or feeling overwhelmed.

My life mission has been to learn and understand the many different ways in which our unconscious mind controls our lives, and just as importantly, what to do about it. The fact is that for each and everyone of us, our own unconscious mind has developed and created mistaken and limiting beliefs about ourselves which limit us from reaching our full and complete potential and we are often not even aware of it. This process seems to be universal and reliable research shows that it begins in the very first weeks of life. This is why I focus on helping my clients to find approaches to change the way their own unconscious mind thinks.

Life is messy. Talking about it helps. Circumstances in life can cause us to lose sight of ourselves and who we are called to be. Depression and anxiety can creep in or hit us all at once. Trauma can leave lasting wounds. Grief happens and there is no timeline for healing. Relationships with others can become complicated and confusing. Together we can figure out why you can’t escape from negative thought patterns, where your lack of self-confidence comes from, what’s at the root of your anxious feelings and worry, find freedom from the need to be perfect, process trauma from past experiences, find relief from depression, and more.

Sometimes, our stressful thoughts can become overwhelming and become taxing in our day to day experiences. I help people get "unstuck". I am passionate about working with the Hispanic/ Latin community. I can help with navigating challenging or conflicting cultural and familial differences. If you find yourself in a tough situation, starting to lose sleep, stuck in negative thoughts, and feeling like you are reliving the past due to trauma, then I might be able to help. I have helped people navigate these circumstances and the pain and struggles they have.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
