I have specialized experience with grief/loss, abuse, trauma, eating disorders, relational issues, addiction, mood disorders, psychosis, and spiritual questions.
Do you know your heart matters? It requires courage to explore your heart's history with another. And, it's natural to feel uncertain when searching for help with your concerns. Whether you are seeking a solution, or acceptance of something without a solution, psychotherapy offers a unique space for attention, acceptance, exploration, and growth. I am a licensed counselor, psychotherapist, and teacher who enjoys listening to the hearts of others. I love providing a safe, accepting, confidential space for clients to explore their life stories, share their pain, and learn to honor and interpret their heart's deepest desires.

I specialize in treating individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma. Many times trauma/stress/distress result in individuals coping and managing alone and I believe the healing work begins when individuals are able to find trusted others to do the work with. While I am primarily a solution and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapist, I feel that the driving change that can be implemented in any client's life starts with them. It is the therapist’s job to aid clients in realizing their own potential, but that starts with the therapist demonstrating openness, caring and trustworthiness, and those things help the client realize that their thoughts, feelings and behaviors are all linked and need to be used simultaneously to implement real change.

I am passionate about working with individuals who are struggling with symptoms resulting from any type of overwhelming experience or trauma, especially early life trauma and neglect. Through my years of practice, I have seen that it's often true that, while people can experience great healing with talk therapy alone, it doesn't always feel like enough. Over the last 12 years, this has led me to pursue more specialized training in trauma-centered interventions, including Somatic Experiencing and clinical neurofeedback.

Life is much easier when we learn that we can improve or even control our reaction to most difficulties facing us. Learn to change "reaction" to "response," indicating a thoughtful, healthful method of reply. The ideal client will begin therapy with an open mind, a need for change, and a willingness to participate in his/her own growth process. Once you get curious about yourself, we can go places!

Do past events or daily stressors overwhelm you? Do you feel like you've attempted to make change or work through your emotional pain but nothing seems to be working? Often it can be frustrating when you've feel that you have exhausted your options to building a better path.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
