I use a combination of CBT, ACT DBT, hypnotherapy, mindfulness and mind/body approaches to help you reach your goals and get back to living your best life – or BETTER.
There has been a constant stream of worries, no matter how hard you try “not to think about it.” Once one thing subsides, your mind immediately moves on to the next. You feel tense and tight all the time and it’s affecting your sleep and ability to concentrate on anything else. If you’re being honest, it feels really lonely and isolating. People say you just need to let it go, but it’s not that easy. It feels like drowning in an ocean of negative thinking at times.

I use a combination of CBT, DBT and Mindfulness techniques to help you reach your fullest potential in a safe and affirming environment.
Caught in a stress volley between feeling overly anxious and afraid of what others might think of “the real you”. People say you are too in touch with your feelings, but at the same time you are afraid to confide in your parents, friends or colleagues. You desperately want to feel better but aren’t sure how to get there. Deep down you know you have so much potential, but often feel like a disappointment to yourself and others. Your emotions feel like a burden and the last thing you want to do is share them with the people closest to you.

I utilize a person-centered, strengths-based approach, while currently training in DBT and CBT such that I can best serve.
I’ve worked in in the mental health field for nearly 25 years, in inpatient and residential settings, as well as in the community. I’ve worked with diverse populations, primarily with adults of all ages, and also have experience working with adolescents who’ve experienced significant trauma. I’ve worked extensively with individuals diagnosed with severe anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation (and attempts), mood disorders, psychosis, borderline personality disorder, as well as intellectual disabilities and neurodevelopmental differences. I believe mental health services should be accessible to all and seek to make that a reality.

I am able to utilize many different types of therapy including cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, trauma-informed techniques, and more.
Asking for help can be hard. Working through basic life issues can be hard too. But working through them with someone you trust can shed a little hope on life’s more difficult days. The amount of people seeking mental health services has been steadily increasing as the stigma surrounding asking for help slowly fades away. There is no shame in asking for help; it could change your life for the better.

Some of the techniques that I have been trained in and find most helpful are: Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR).
One of the most important things for me is a clinician is that we are addressing the needs and goals of the client, that means that nobody else’s agenda is going to be prioritized. That also means that identifying those needs and goals will be the foundation of the work and what we go back to if we get lost and what we might change if movement is stunted. While there is not any prep work I would ask prior to a session, I would encourage any prospective clients to consider what they would like to accomplish in therapy. I offer intensive EMDR sessions (3-8 hours) and am currently able to schedule clients for intensive sessions.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
