I incorporate several techniques through CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT, Family Systems, Solution Focused and Strength Based therapies to look at each individual as a whole.
Life can be hard at times, and often very unpredictable. We may find ourselves not equipped with the tools we need to process all of life's challenges, or we may just need safe space to talk through the issues that arise. I believe in creating a collaborative space where my clients feel safe, secure and not judged to explore areas and skills to help you live your best life.

I primarily utilize DBT and CBT, as well at trauma informed, and attachment informed approaches in therapy.
As a queer person, I aim to serve LGBTQIA2S+ clients as much as possible. I also work with those outside the queer community, especially those struggling with anxiety, depression, eating concerns, big emotions, and a history of trauma; I work with BPD but not through a certified DBT program. I aim to highlight each client's individual strengths and existing skills to build off of. My desire is to create a space where you feel you can be open, and your successes are celebrated. My ideal client is someone motivated for weekly therapy, putting in a focused effort to learn to utilize coping skills, self-reflection, and behavior changes.

I specialize in trauma-informed practices and am certified in DBT, CBT, Somatic Approaches and Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapies.
Maybe you've been thinking of trying therapy for a while, or have almost given up that it could work for you. I'd love to help you see the beauty in accepting that, as in life, it’s okay to not "get it right" the first time. I enjoy reactivating hope in people to see the potential in themselves and in others. You don't have to try making changes on your own.

We’ll engage in that activity in a mindful, trauma-informed way and have deep, reflective conversion, weaving together relevant threads from ACT, DBT & more.
You’re a little different. You’re seeking more out of life than mainstream society implies is possible. Perhaps you’ve always felt that there’s some piece missing but you can’t put your finger on it, or that you have a calling that you haven’t discovered yet. You feel things strongly. You may have been told that you feel things too much, or that you are too much. Maybe you’re looking for a better way to live with anxiety, depression, a trauma history, or an illness you can’t make sense of. Maybe you’re not sure what’s wrong, but you know things aren’t quite right. You wonder if there’s anyone else like you. I’m so glad you're here.

DBT and IFS-informed psychotherapist.
The late comedian Harris Wittels once said, "we are all wonderful and horrible and figuring it out"; this statement is the basis for my approach to therapy. Before I decided to pursue a career in psychotherapy, I worked in comedy - rising in the administrative ranks at the famed Second City theater in Chicago. Working in the arts taught me compassion, creativity, the power of collaboration, and cultivated in me the ability to improvise. I'm excited to meet you where you are and hope to have the honor of walking alongside you wherever you lead. You are deserving of peace and joy - we can find them together.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
